"A step n'shower was installed in one 12 hour day. Installers were professional, worked to remove tub and then install an excellent step-in shower. Safety features were a special issue for me at age 82. When a question arose then following day, the installers returned that very day and checked on their work. The slight problem was not due to their installment and they advised me as to the next step. I am thoroughly satisfied."

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

Adding fixtures or changing drain lines requires checking your private septic system capacity. Upgrading a water heater demands evaluating your private well pump and electrical panel to ensure they handle the increased load. For homes on slab foundations, under-slab plumbing requires cutting concrete. In older Emory homes with crawl spaces, pipe repairs easily disrupt shared HVAC ductwork, insulation, and vapor barriers.

Helpful?

Verify that your contractor holds a valid state license and carries current liability insurance. Hire local professionals familiar with private wells and septic systems, as these are common in Emory. Your contractor must know proper freeze-protection practices for crawl spaces and outdoor faucets. Ensure the licensed pro takes full responsibility for pulling all required permits for your plumbing, rather than leaving it to you.

Helpful?

Always verify permit requirements with the local building department before starting plumbing. Confirm whether your property connects to a municipal sewer or a private septic system. Locate your main water shutoff valve and meter for quick access. State law requires calling 811 before any excavation to locate underground utilities. Finally, request the permit history for your TX property to identify unpermitted past work.

Helpful?

In older Emory homes, rust-colored water and low pressure indicate failing galvanized pipes. Hard water causes scale buildup and premature joint failure. Watch for mismatched pipe materials from unpermitted plumbing, like PVC joined directly to galvanized steel. You should also check for musty odors or subfloor moisture, which point to hidden leaks from hasty repairs made after heavy rains or hard freezes.

Helpful?

Schedule plumbing in late summer or early fall to avoid extreme heat. Complete freeze protection upgrades before November to prepare for sudden winter temperature drops. Avoid spring storm seasons, as contractors stay busy with emergency repairs. You should also schedule an inspection if you notice changes in water color or pressure, or if your TX home recently experienced localized flooding.
