"I don't have enough superlatives to describe the excellent job Tecton Stoneworks did on this difficult and complicated job. Aaron Utter came out himself to do the estimate and was on the job site 3 of the 4 times I dropped by to see the progress. They started work within days of my accepting the bid, did everything they said they would and more. They finished on time and cleaned everything perfectly. I've dealt with many contractors through one new home build and two renovated homes. This was the easiest and most professional crew I've dealt with ever! My one hundred and one year old home is ready for another one hundred years and I have no doubt that the brickwork done by Tecton will stand the test of time."

"I have not used the company, YET. I plan to though! Chris, the inspector who checked out my foundation was a peach. He arrived on time, even though I, myself was late! He was polite, friendly and professional. He squeezed himself into my tiny crawlspace and took amazing and accurate photos of the foundation. He showed me the pics and told me exactly what was going on, how to repair it in detail and what to expect. I had Cornerstone come out several weeks before I called Pinnacle and they gave me a totally different story that would have cost me a LOT more money! I will definitely be calling Pinnacle later this year to take care of my foundation issue."

"Excellent job and competitive price. Retaining wall was structurally engineered to meet City of Grapevine requirements, the process went smooth with Rudy, engineer and city inspector. Rudy also was able to accommodate my LED light request mid build to illuminate the columns of the wall. What an amazing job and cleanups after each day on the project. He will be coming back this Spring to remove and replace the railroad ties in my backyard to match the Milsap Sandstone he did on front wall."

"They put up a retaining wall in my back yard. They came over on a late Thursday afternoon to dig the trench and we're at my house Friday morning before I left for work at 7am and we're finished by 11.30 am. It looks beautiful and surpassed my expectations. Definitely will use them again for my deck replacement. Also they were really reasonable. Would have provided pics but don't see a way to upload for this review."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Unfortunately, there are many disadvantages to stone houses. They are slow to build and the materials are pricey, both of which balloon the total cost. Stone walls require a more robust foundation, which costs more to install. Running plumbing, electrical, and HVAC through a stone house is much more difficult too, so homeowners need to seriously consider if the aesthetic benefit is worth the cost of building with stone. One of the questions to ask a masonry contractor is if a similar aesthetic can be achieved with another material.

You can use normal bricks as cladding for a concrete or clay pizza oven or as a base underneath one. Fire bricks or solid clay bricks are necessary for an outdoor pizza oven’s floor, and you can use clay bricks for the rest of the oven.

The cost to install or replace brick or stone siding generally ranges from $10 to $50 per square foot. The final price depends on several factors, including the specific material type, local labor rates, and any necessary preparation work, such as removing old siding. For example, different types of stone have varying costs per square foot: natural stone ($4.50–$35), stone veneer ($11–$13), faux stone ($6–$9), and cultured or manufactured stone ($5–$8).

This is largely dependent on the size and hardness of the rock, but a range of tools might work, including hammers, chisels, rock hammers, sledge hammers, and more. You'll need a jackhammer for the very biggest rock-breaking jobs.

Depending on the amount of soot present, you can vacuum some of it using a brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner. Then, remove the leftovers with a mild cleaner, such as dish soap or vinegar mixed with water. Before applying a cleaning solution, saturate the bricks with clean water to prevent the cleaner from penetrating beyond the surface and causing structural damage to the bricks.
