"I don't have enough superlatives to describe the excellent job Tecton Stoneworks did on this difficult and complicated job. Aaron Utter came out himself to do the estimate and was on the job site 3 of the 4 times I dropped by to see the progress. They started work within days of my accepting the bid, did everything they said they would and more. They finished on time and cleaned everything perfectly. I've dealt with many contractors through one new home build and two renovated homes. This was the easiest and most professional crew I've dealt with ever! My one hundred and one year old home is ready for another one hundred years and I have no doubt that the brickwork done by Tecton will stand the test of time."

"Omar was very knowledgeable and worked with us to make sure we got a wall that looked good and would last. He also helped with a few other small masonry repairs around our house. Will definitely use again."

"It's not too often these days, unfortunately, that I find a business that prioritizes being upfront and honest with their customers over generating revenue. Pinnacle Foundation, in my brief experience with them, is such a business. Robby with Pinnacle spent close to an hour conducting an elevation test on my foundation, and concluded that I do not need piers, though I might have a leaky pipe under the house. His consultation was free. Give Pinnacle a call if you want an honest assessment of your foundation."

"Heath and his crew did a fantastic job! We had a couple of half inch cracks over our garage that were only getting bigger. Heath came out when he said he would and gave us a couple of options. We elected to go with concrete piers. Heath and Katie were excellent at communicating the process and performing the work when they said they would. They were even able to save some of our plants. I honestly didn’t expect for any of them to survive. The results were amazing! I highly recommend them for any foundation repair needs that you may have."

"Had previously purchased Belgard pavers installed. There was a long delay due to lots of contracting work during the pandemic. I had to call several times to keep abreast of the schedule. I was finally notified THE MORNING of when the crew was to begin work. That was unacceptable as my backyard was ? not ready? and I had planned to be at home during the first day of the process. Fortunately, I was able to watch the installation via my Ring floodlight camera and work was completed in two days. Cleanup was exceptional. My patio and walkway are beautiful."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

It is possible, albeit a lot slower, to break up a rock using water. You would do this by freezing and thawing the water. You could create some initial holes or cracks in the rock, then pour water into the cracks or holes and allow them to freeze (so it's best to do this in winter or in colder climates). Since water expands when it freezes, this puts pressure on the inside of the rock and causes it to crack. You could continue to pour more water in and let it freeze to continue to break up the rock.

Handbuilt masonry fireplaces are likely what comes to mind when we think about curling up by the fire at the end of the day. But bricks in the firebox and chimney tend to be heavy, which is not ideal for homes with weak or damaged foundations.

Prefabricated fireboxes come with a full flue and chimney system, significantly reducing the price and installation time. However, if you need to replace the panels down the line, you are locked into the same model or something very similar.

It’s called cobblestone because it’s made of stones that are “cobbed” together. A cob is a term that refers to rounded lumps. Originally, cobblestone streets were made from pebbles and stones gathered from riverbeds that had been rounded over time by the passage of water. The term has nothing to do with a cobbler, which is the term for someone who makes and fixes shoes.

Brick and stone are durable, low-maintenance materials for siding and walls that offer excellent insulation, aesthetic appeal, and can increase property value.

Yes, staining a brick home can increase a home’s value, assuming your pro does a good job and you keep up with maintenance tasks. Staining brick is a much better way to increase a home’s value than painting brick, as the latter can cause chipping, warping, and bubbling. Brick stain, on the other hand, gets absorbed by the surface, so it can still breathe.
