"The quote to do my house and garage including replacing my gutters with a larger size and gutter guard was less than another quote I got for just a roof on my house. The roof was done last July in extreme heat but The crew did an excellent job and cleaned after themselves. Very pleased!"

"Everyone who worked on the project at my home were on time, professional, and courteous. Courtney was very efficient in coordinating all the schedules and keeping me informed at all times. Brad did a great job overseeing the roofing and making sure the job was done and everything was cleaned up afterward. Wyatt and Andy did an expert job on water damage under gutter area. Good to find a business with people that show up and keep their word."

"We worked with Roof MD to repair a leaking sunroom roof. Shawn answered all the questions we had (which was a lot!) and offered great follow-up on scheduling. They were quick to schedule the service, showed up on time, and got the job done. The crew was friendly and tidy. While I hope I don't have a roof leak again, I would definitely hire them again!"

Small jobs welcome

"These are a group of fine people who did an excellent job on both the house painting and the new roof. They did the whole thing in less less than 7 day. The work was excellent! We were throughly impressed with their professionalism and the work pace as well as the attention to detail. They checked with us every step of the way to make sure we were satified and updated on any changes needed along with pricing. I will hire this group again in the future for other work that we need done. They cleaned up daily and everything looked fantastic. I recommend giving them a try and i think anyone else too will be impressed. Thanks to them for a job WELL done."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

If a roof is not vented, trapped air and moisture have nowhere to go and will cause moisture to build up in the attic. When moisture builds up, it can cause mold and mildew, leaks, and rot. It will make the space hot and stuffy, which can result in higher energy bills as the HVAC system works overtime to regulate the temperature.

Fall is widely considered the best time of year to replace a roof. The moderate temperatures are ideal for roofing crews to work and for new shingles to seal properly. Additionally, autumn weather is often drier, reducing the risk of weather-related delays compared to the rainier spring season.

While spring is also a viable option, the higher chance of rainfall can slow down the project. The main drawback to a fall installation is that it's the peak season for roofers, which can lead to higher prices and scheduling challenges.

To potentially save money, you could consider scheduling your roof replacement during the summer or winter off-seasons. However, both seasons have significant disadvantages. Extreme summer heat can make shingles too soft to handle, while winter's cold, snow, and ice can create dangerous working conditions and prevent shingles from sealing correctly, as they typically require temperatures above 40-45°F.

To cap off a chimney flue, start by measuring its width, length, and diameter, if it’s circular. Purchase a cap that fits the flue, and decide whether you want a temporary or permanent model. Then, slide or insert the cap onto the flue and secure it with a screwdriver. Be sure to avoid over-tightening the screws to prevent chimney damage.

During the framing process, builders connect the roof to the walls with materials, including metal connectors, plywood panels, and wood blocks. These roof-to-wall connections are important and provide weatherproofing, noise and temperature insulation, protection against pests, and home integrity. The type of connector and method used will vary, depending on your home’s construction and needs, and each has pros and cons in terms of cost, noise insulation, longevity, and reliability. Talk with your home or roofing contractor about the best connectors for your roof and walls, and what they recommend for your home.

Building code allows 24-inch on-center spacing for roof trusses. However, you can install them on 12- or 16-inch centers to handle large loads or other exceptional circumstances. In cases such as covering a wide span or supporting alternative roofing materials, where a structural engineer needs to evaluate or create a design for your trusses, the plans will indicate the spacing.
