"The quote to do my house and garage including replacing my gutters with a larger size and gutter guard was less than another quote I got for just a roof on my house. The roof was done last July in extreme heat but The crew did an excellent job and cleaned after themselves. Very pleased!"

"Everyone who worked on the project at my home were on time, professional, and courteous. Courtney was very efficient in coordinating all the schedules and keeping me informed at all times. Brad did a great job overseeing the roofing and making sure the job was done and everything was cleaned up afterward. Wyatt and Andy did an expert job on water damage under gutter area. Good to find a business with people that show up and keep their word."

Small jobs welcome

"These are a group of fine people who did an excellent job on both the house painting and the new roof. They did the whole thing in less less than 7 day. The work was excellent! We were throughly impressed with their professionalism and the work pace as well as the attention to detail. They checked with us every step of the way to make sure we were satified and updated on any changes needed along with pricing. I will hire this group again in the future for other work that we need done. They cleaned up daily and everything looked fantastic. I recommend giving them a try and i think anyone else too will be impressed. Thanks to them for a job WELL done."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

Building an A-frame roof falls under the category of constructing a steep roof. While its structure is relatively simple, its height and requirements for more materials than a shallow roof design can increase its cost significantly. Expect prices for building an A-frame roof to hover around average to slightly above average.

Generally, roof flashing is installed under the shingles to create a watertight seal and prevent moisture from seeping in and causing damage. However, the exact placement can depend on the type of flashing. For instance, with step flashing, the shingles and flashing overlap each other, meaning the flashing is technically both over and under the shingles. Flashing also typically goes beneath the house siding and is often not visible from the ground.

You can technically install a metal roof over asphalt shingles, but it isn’t a good idea. This is because you’re essentially creating a moisture barrier under the metal, which can easily—and often does—lead to significant mold damage. Removing an asphalt roof isn’t terribly expensive, and some roofing companies might cut you a serious labor and disposal discount if you add it to a new install.

Furring strips (also called wood stripping) are not always necessary for a metal roof installation, but they are highly recommended and may be required by local building codes or the roofing manufacturer's specifications. There are several key reasons to use them:

  • Energy Efficiency: Furring strips, made of wood or metal, create an air gap between the metal panels and the roof deck. This acts as a thermal break, reducing heat transfer into your home and improving overall energy efficiency.

  • Moisture and Condensation Control: The air gap allows for better airflow, which helps prevent moisture buildup and condensation under the metal panels.

  • Structural Support: They provide a solid, even frame to which you can attach the metal roofing panels.

It is especially important to use furring strips when installing a metal roof over existing shingles. Without them, the roof surface can be uneven, and you will experience greater solar heat gain.

Just like when you’re shingling a roof, you can install felt underlayment under a metal roof, but a synthetic underlayment like adhered ice and water shield is the best option. These use adhesives rather than mechanical fasteners, so you have fewer penetrations going through your roof deck and a lower risk of leaks. Ice and water shield is also easier to install because you don’t need additional tools or fasteners to attach it to the roof deck.
