"I was hoping to find a counter top to match our existing kitchen granite.  Knoxville stone interiors had just what I needed in a remanant so I didn't have a large expense.  They had it made in a day and it matches perfectly!   I later needed to have it re-cut for a smaller cabinet because of a mistake that I made,  and that was no problem for them...  Very easy to work with and lots of options!

"Excellent work & pricing. When the work was more extensive than quoted, Josh did not push those additional costs to me even though most companies would. I would recommend Garrett & Sons for any of you Masonary needs."

"Rocky is so much in demand that he put us on a waiting list from last fall to now to receive his services. Although it was disappointing not to be able to use our fireplace at all last winter (we had to keep it covered with tarp to prevent further damage), I was very glad we waited for the expert quality services of this very honest and knowledgeable skilled craftsman. He was very up front with us that he would not be able to start until the spring, and kept us informed of the timeline as we moved up the wait list. He did an excellent job on our project and his price was very reasonable for this multi-day job. He also took the time to carefully explain the details of the work that needed to be done. This information was very much appreciated. He takes very good care of his customers. We will not be using anyone else for any future masonry needs on our all-brick home.

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

If you haven’t had your chimney cleaned in some time, soot and grime can build up, making it difficult for the lever to release to close the flue. When this happens, locate the lever and clean it thoroughly. If this doesn’t help, consult with a fireplace repair pro to examine it for you.

The cost to install a pre-fabricated gas fireplace ranges from $2,000 to $7,500. The final price is influenced by several factors, including the specific model and size of the unit, the complexity of the venting, labor rates, and whether any structural modifications are required.

One of the best ways to know your chimney is good to go on any given night is to simply look up into your flue with a flashlight. If you see a thick buildup of creosote—a shiny, dark substance that looks like tar—it’s best to have your fireplace professionally cleaned before you go ahead with the burn. Additionally, having your fireplace professionally inspected once per year can also help increase your peace of mind and keep your family and your home safe.

One disadvantage of a wood furnace is that you need a constant supply of wood to run it. Even if you have a good amount of wood on your property (or have another way to get affordable wood), you’ll still need to chop it, store it, and re-fuel your furnace with it to keep your house heated.

You should never block both the top and bottom of your chimney. Proper airflow is essential because the temperature inside the chimney will still fluctuate as your house warms and cools. Moisture can build up without ventilation, leading to dampness in your walls over time. Blocking the top prevents debris and animals from entering, but the chimney still needs air circulation to avoid condensation issues. Allowing the chimney to breathe maintains the health of your home and prevents long-term damage.
