"The owner, Mr. McKown, has an awesome personality, offers fair in estimates and pricing, and does tree removal and stump grinding with great speed. I highly recommend. Trust my rating as I am very critical of services and rarely award 5 stars to anyone."

"Top notch. Impressively fast and amazingly delicate around my existing landscaping. This was a big job... 6 trees... tall ones... and some no easy to get to. Struck the deal on Monday and its Friday evening....job done. Priced very competitively against the other bids I got (but yes, cheaper). This is not my first rodeo... I live in a wooded area and I have had trees taken out before by a variety of services. Spaulding is right up there. I'd use them again without reservation"

Customers say: Quick response

"They did an excellent job on a challenging project. A very large pine tree died and I wanted it removed before going out of town for three weeks. They were very careful to lower the cut branches to the ground, protect two bushes on each side of the trunk, and to cut the pieces into lengths small enough for me to move. (I kept the wood.) They had a full crew and substantial machinery. Their insurance company emailed me a certificate of insurance before the work began. A+"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

The best way to protect tree roots is to avoid the roots entirely by excavating outside the root radius of the tree. For nearby projects, it’s a good idea to construct a temporary retaining wall. But that’s not always possible, depending on the project and the root system. In these cases, consider using alternative equipment like an auger to tunnel under the ground.

Remember, tree roots can damage nearby cement foundations as they grow. If a tree is close enough to interfere with large excavations, it may be better to remove the tree than risk future problems.

Yes, it is essential to confirm that any tree service company you hire is properly insured before they begin work. Tree removal, trimming, and pruning are dangerous jobs, and proper insurance protects you, your home, and the company from liability in case of accidents or damage. Look for a company that carries both general liability and workers’ compensation insurance, and do not hire one that cannot provide proof of coverage. When browsing for professionals, you can look for indicators like an “Angi Approved” badge, which signifies that the business meets standards like holding applicable licenses and passing a background check. Keep in mind that a license is a legal requirement to operate, while certifications are typically voluntary.

Most trees can be successfully transplanted while they are young, but pines, walnuts, and some oak tree varieties are more difficult to move because their root systems grow deeper than most other trees. Also, trees adapted to sandy soil with wide root systems like beeches, willows, and aspens are harder to dig out because their roots spread much farther out from the trunk. In these cases, unless the trees are very young and small, it’s a good idea to consult a tree planting professional.

Your local government is usually in charge of pruning trees on public property, and the power company is responsible for trees near power lines (even if they’re on your property). Whether or not they top these trees depends on their approach to pruning. You won’t be able to do much to control this, but you can contact them to find out more about their pruning process.

Yes, many services include stump grinding to eliminate tripping hazards and improve aesthetics.
