"Joe fixed our bathroom leak by replacing the faulty hardware with the proper hardware and patched the wall back up and repainted the wall (with the perfect color match) where he had to cut out to diagnose. You can’t even tell there was a hole there. Joe took the time to explain everything to me of what our issue was and how he fixed it. He was on time, explained how long the job will take, and very thorough. Very professional work. My husband and I will definitely use Cransten again for our house projects in the future. Before and after photos from the leak damage and repair included with this review."

"We called Mount Valley Foundation to perform an inspection on our previously installed encapsulation and humidifier system in our home. Dominic Pritchard, Mount Valley Foundation Service Tech, returned the call and scheduled an appointment for the inspection. On the day of the inspection he called confirming the time of arrival. Mr. Pritchard arrived at the scheduled time. He was very professional, polite, neatly dressed, and addressed our questions and concerns with the current system. He advised us of the inspection he would provide and photograph areas within the crawlspace to show us. Once the inspection was completed, including changing the batteries in the crawlspace remote and replace the humidifier filter, he explained what he observed, and what service he performed, using the photos on his cellphone, showed us the encapsulated crawlspace, including the two large hanging snake skins on two of the foundation support walls. and others smaller snake skins he observed. He advised the 17 year old fiberglass insulation was hanging down in many locations and suggested removal of the current insulation and replacing with an updated insulation which would benefit the encapsulation and humidifier, giving better insulation for the floor above. Dominic explained in detail how the new insulation would be installed, how long the installation would take and assured us it would benefit us in the long run from having to replace the dropping-down fiberglass insulation, which may prevent small rodents (mice) from burrowing in the insulation, and also deter snakes from seeking any food source (mice). Dominic advised us of the total cost of this project and offered several options for payment. During his service visit, Dominic was very patient and was not pressuring us in making a decision to have the work done. Dominic advised us of a discount if we decide in a short time-frame. We decided to have this project completed and are very satisfied with our decision. We highly recommend Mount Valley Foundations and are very satisfied the Dominic Pritchard was our service tech. We cannot say enough about how polite, patient and considerate Dominic was as he explained everything completely and answered every question and concern we had. Thank you Mount Valley Foundations and Dominic Pritchard. Sincerely, Cheryl & Rich C., Summerton"

"The job went great. Scott and his crew (Carlos, Uncle, Cruze, and Cruze II) were easy to work with. They were mindful of protecting the rest of the yard. They kept us involved all during the process making sure that our vision of the finished project was realized. They kept a very neat jobsite. Final cleanup was fantastic. Scott gave us a good estimate and stuck to it. We liked the job so well that we added another 40 feet of wall."

"The husband and wife team arrived exactly when they said they would. They scraped the entire 3-car garage and workshop ceiling and portions of walls to remove failing sheetrock tape, sanded, painted and cleaned up all in one day. They were very quiet and worked continously. I was VERY pleased with their work and feel their price was fair. I appreciate that they had to travel quite a distance to my home."

"Baron Harvin is an excellent brick mason. The lower half of the brick veneer between my garage doors was partially torn away when my cement driveway was removed. I kept the top part of the veneer supported by wood until I could find someone willing to make a repair. Mr. Harvin had no problem accepting the job. The work he did was outstanding. Not only did he seamlessly restore the lower half of the brick veneer at this part of the wall, he salvaged some of the original brick that was pull off the wall and mixed it with new brick that was a close match. He also matched the color of the new mortar with the color of the original mortar. I was very impressed with his attention to detail. He also repointed the brick stairs to my front door. Mortar had broken away from some bricks and was being washed away from the remainder. Tile at the top of the stairs was also coming loose, decades after original installation. Mr. Harvin did an outstanding restoration of those steps."

"Tucker was very good. He was polite and respectful. He was on time and when he worked he was careful to do exactly what I had asked. If he was running late arriving he’d call and let me know. He would have me look at what had been done to be sure I was satisfied. If there was something I’d forgotten to ask him to do he’d either do it then if he had the time or make another time to come back and do it! He was very eager to be sure I was satisfied with his work and fix anything I had a problem with. I’ll be calling him when I have more outside work done in the future."

Wall Repair questions, answered by experts

Each design is different, so we can’t say definitively if you’ll need a dedicated drainage system in place for a two-foot retaining wall. However, you can likely skip the drainage, as this project is typically served for walls that are 4 feet tall or more. Even with a relatively low wall, consider drainage if you are building on top of clay or poor-draining soil types or if there are buried water sources nearby, like a well used for other outdoor garden projects.

Sand and gravel are two suitable options for filling behind a retaining wall. If you’re building your own retaining wall, you’ll complete this part of the process—known as backfilling—after you finish laying the blocks. Make sure not to skip it—otherwise, you could wind up with drainage issues, which can cause your retaining wall to collapse.

DIY is possible for small projects. Professional installation ensures structural integrity and durability for larger walls.

Proper design and construction prevent erosion and add structural stability to landscapes.

While vinyl is the least costly material for building a retaining wall, the most cost-effective method is to use wood or concrete blocks for a DIY retaining wall under 2 feet tall. Wood is inexpensive but lasts 20 years or more with care. Concrete can cost a little more but is stronger and will last longer with less maintenance.
