"I was so impressed with Top of the Line Painting. Weather held up the work for over a week but Matt stayed in touch almost every day. His team came at the designated time and finished staining not only a two-tier deck but also painted the front porch in less than a day. They also pressure-washed the house and it looks beautiful. The work they performed was absolutely professional and I am extremely happy with the job they did. I highly recommend this company!"

"Bryan and Ariel did a great job painting 4 rooms and fixing 2 ceilings. They covered all our furniture. They cleaned up when the project was done. On a side note, we have a cat named Willow. We had her in a room with the door shut. Without thinking, I opened the door and Willow took off like a lightening bolt. She is an indoor cat and has never gone outside except to go the the vets office. At the same time, Bryan and Ariel had our front door open to bring their paint and other objects in. Ariel was a few feet inside our home and I yelled like a lunatic â shut the doorâ . Iâ ve never seen someone move so fast. Willow was about one foot from being outside and Ariel was able to shut the door before she ran out. Willow means everything to us. I am so greatful to Ariel that he was able to move quickly and kept our Willow safe. We would definitely hire Certapro again when needed."

"This was one of the best experiences we have had working with a contractor. It was a for a large install of ceramic tile. From removing the old hardwood, to leveling, to tile install and quarter round install through final cleanup, all was great. The finished flooring looks fantastic! Very diligent, thorough and professional from start to finish. As a bonus they also painted an area of our home with 16’ ceilings and it looks great, saving us time and a lot of effort. 5 stars plus!!!"

"Manuel and his crew were absolutely fantastic! From clear communication with the initial estimate, and all through the project, MJM Painting exceeded our expectations. They were prompt, professional, and their painting expertise is simply stellar. Our bedroom and bathroom has been transformed into a very beautiful space. We had no worries at all while our work was being done. They kept everything neat and tidy and they also helped us with a couple of additional items in our bathroom. I will call Manuel for all future painting projects."

"Communication was excellent. Painting skill was good. When I have them back to do more I will supply shoe covers. We did have some red clay tracked in on the carpet. We did manage to get the stain out. I would hire them again."

Painting questions, answered by experts

You can use latex or acrylic paint outdoors. Although acrylic paint tends to last longer outside, it also costs more, so if you’re painting the outside of your house, for instance, latex paint is often a go-to option. However, acrylic will be your best choice if you want to spend some extra money for added durability.

Generally, these steps are included in exterior house painting:

  • Prepping and protecting the areas not being painted

  • Scraping away loose paint

  • Cleaning off dirt, grease, and debris

  • Caulking gaps and openings

  • Priming with a quality paint primer

  • Painting the prepared areas, including trim and accents with chosen paint finish

  • Adding a second coat

  • Cleaning up the site and disposing of tape, plastic, and drop cloths

You should stain both sides of your fence to get the full benefits. Fences often fall along property lines, so you may want to save a buck by leaving your neighbor’s side in the dust. If you do that, all you get is a slightly better view. Moisture and UV rays can still sneak in through the side that’s unpainted or worn down and damage your fence. Rot and rust will spread, even if you can’t see it from your side of the lawn.

Yes, you can and should paint or stain pressure-treated wood, as this helps prevent the surface from cracking. However, it is crucial to wait for the wood to dry out completely from the chemical treatment process before applying a finish. If the wood is still wet, the paint will not adhere properly. The drying time can range from weeks to six months. To test if the wood is ready, drip some water onto a board. If the water is absorbed, the wood is dry enough for painting or staining. If the water beads up on the surface, it needs more time to dry. You can build with the wood while it's still wet, but you must wait for it to dry before painting.

Whitewashing isn’t permanent, but it can last for a long, long time. When you apply it correctly or have a seasoned pro whitewash your brick, whitewashing can last for 20 to 30 years or longer. Whitewash is very durable and typically requires little maintenance, making it a great project for most DIYers.
