"They advice, and had all our questions answered on sensible and affordable options. Very knowledgeable, prompt, polite, efficient, and thorough team! We are happy with their waterproofing services in our basement (fast sump pump and a grate trench with a discharge line that goes 15 feet to the outside bubbler) as well as crawl space shield installed under our addition. It works well, and Pioneer checked a month later and a year after for inspection and cleaning. A+ work and workers."

"J and O solved my problem with some simple ingenuity that got the tank working again at no cost. Not even a service charge. When the tank finally stops working for good I will almost certainly use them to install the new tank."

"Extremely satisfied, very patient, cleaned up after themselves, and punctual! I'm a senior citizen and I wasn't quite sure how to work the new hand held shower head they just installed. They took the time and explained It. The girl Cheryl in the office was so helpful and patient... when I called in she went step by step through the instructions until I understood them - she had me write them down so I can refer to them in the future. What a company. I cannot say enough good things. I was afraid to call for a plumber as i heard that plumbers are expensive. But they were fair and didn't over charge me as a senior citizen. I just love them. Don't hesitate to call them."

"Paul provided estimates for the 2 types of tanks I was interested in. Once tank type was decided on, a date for work was set. Paul and his team showed up on time and the job was completed in a timely manner. The quality of work and product are excellent. Work area was left completely clean. I am very pleased with the job done and would highly recommend New England Tank Service. Thanks again Paul!"

Sump Pump Installation questions, answered by experts

In most cases, standard homeowners insurance policies do not cover damage from a sump pump failure or overflow. Coverage for water damage is often limited to sudden, unexpected events like a burst pipe that was not caused by negligence. To be covered for sump pump issues, you will likely need to purchase a specific rider, endorsement, or additional water backup insurance. If your insurer offers this type of coverage, they may require proof that your sump pump is regularly maintained.

A sewage ejector pump is necessary if you have any plumbing fixtures, such as a bathroom, laundry room, or sink, located below the level of your home's main sewer line. Standard plumbing relies on gravity to move wastewater and solid waste to the municipal sewer or septic tank. However, for fixtures located below grade (e.g., in a basement), gravity is not sufficient.

The purpose of a sewage ejector pump is to actively pump this wastewater and solid waste upward into the main sewer line. Without an ejector pump in this situation, wastewater would have no way to exit and would eventually back up, causing a sewage overflow or flooding in your basement. If all of your home's plumbing is on the main floor or higher, gravity can handle the drainage, and an ejector pump is not needed.

Inspect the pump annually, test the float switch, and clean the discharge line to ensure efficient operation.

Sump pumps prevent basement flooding, reduce humidity, and protect against water damage.

A small sump pump running infrequently uses an average of 10 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity per month. The average cost for electricity is $0.171 per kWh. The size and use frequency affect how much electricity it uses. Sump pumps average one-third to one horsepower (hp) motors. One hp is equal to 745.7 watts. Watts multiplied by the time your pump is running divided by 1,000 equals your average kWh. Multiply kWh by your average cost of electricity. In areas with high rain or a marsh basin, the average cost can be as high as $15-$25 a month.
