"It went well. They are being professional in their follow-up as they are trying to have us install an expensive basement drainage/pumping system. We haven't decided yet, as it will be part of our basement gut/rehab project."

"These guys do phenomenal work. I’ve hired various contractors in the past and I can honestly say that Fellowship is by far the best group of contractors I have worked with. I hired them to install a new boiler system for me and the job went as smooth as it could have possibly gone. Very professional group of guys, that exceeded expectations. I most definitely plan on working with them again in the future. Highly recommended!"

"Jeff M. was the technician for the annual service for my two sump pumps in the the basement. He was very nice and completed the job in a timely fashion. The product itself that we have of a french drain system and 2 sump pump works and we have not had any water in the basement since getting it installed. "Paul provided estimates for the 2 types of tanks I was interested in. Once tank type was decided on, a date for work was set. Paul and his team showed up on time and the job was completed in a timely manner. The quality of work and product are excellent. Work area was left completely clean. I am very pleased with the job done and would highly recommend New England Tank Service. Thanks again Paul!"

Sump Pump Installation FAQs, answered by experts

A sewage ejector pump is necessary if you have any plumbing fixtures, such as a bathroom, laundry room, or sink, located below the level of your home's main sewer line. Standard plumbing relies on gravity to move wastewater and solid waste to the municipal sewer or septic tank. However, for fixtures located below grade (e.g., in a basement), gravity is not sufficient.

The purpose of a sewage ejector pump is to actively pump this wastewater and solid waste upward into the main sewer line. Without an ejector pump in this situation, wastewater would have no way to exit and would eventually back up, causing a sewage overflow or flooding in your basement. If all of your home's plumbing is on the main floor or higher, gravity can handle the drainage, and an ejector pump is not needed.

Yes, it’s normal (and beneficial) to have a small amount of water in the bottom of your sump pit. It shows that your system is collecting groundwater, rain, and excess water from around your property—just like it’s supposed to. However, if the sump pit is always full, you might have a leak or a faulty sump pump.

One common reason a sump pump stops working is improper sizing. Different locations need different sizes and power ratings of sump pumps depending on the typical amount of water the pump needs to manage. If your sump pump is too small for the quantity of water, it can overwork and either burn out or reduce the life of the unit. If the pump is too big, it can overwork and burn out early.

To maintain your sump pump, start by checking it every three to four months to ensure it’s in working order. Clear any debris from the pit because blockages can prevent the pump from operating efficiently. You should also test the pump by pouring a bucket of water into the pit. If it turns on automatically and drains the water, it’s functioning correctly. Inspect the discharge line for clogs, and ensure it directs water away from your home. Once a year, clean the pump itself, and consider having it professionally serviced for optimal performance.

When a backflow valve fails, wastewater will flow back into your system, contaminating your drinking water. You’ll immediately notice backflow valve failure from a rotten smell and brown water coming from faucets. Get in contact with a septic pro or a plumber immediately if you suspect this has happened to you.
