"Outstanding experience from start to finish. The pro arrived on time, worked efficiently, and installed the ceiling fan with precision and care. The workmanship was excellent—everything is secure, balanced, and looks great. They also left the space clean and were courteous throughout. It’s clear they take pride in their work. I highly recommend them for any electrical or installation needs."

"Found the problem right away. Recommended getting a new ceiling fan because the connection between the remote and the fan was not working properly. Should get a fan with pull cords/chains."

"Called Meyer Electric & set up an appointment to come out & give us an estimate on installing a back up generator.  We had gotten a couple of other estimates & his was the most reasonable.  We asked him to order the generator, which they did.  They were in contact with us each step of the way so we knew when the generator was going to be delivered & the appointment was made for the next day for them to come out & install it.  As it happened on Friday, 2/8, we were expecting a blizzard to start early in the day.  I thought we would possibly be put off until after the storm, but no-they were there early in the morning & got us hooked up so when the storm was over we were able to run the generator & stay warm.
I cannot say enough good about these people and yes I would definitely call them again.  As a matter of fact before Greg left I told him I had another job I wanted him to look at sometime in the near future.  Another nice thing-on Monday after the storm I got a call from Karen to make sure everything had gone ok & find out if we had any questions."Thank you Karen & Greg"

"Wonderful!  Hung a ceiling fan, hung to new exterior shutters, put in new elec. box (not the electrical part of it, just the box); specific box for drywall installation with no studs.  Great service.  I ordered another $99 service and he's coming out this weekend."

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

Whether you can install a ceiling fan yourself depends on if you're replacing an existing fixture or installing one where no wiring exists. If you are replacing an existing fan, an experienced DIYer may be able to do the job, which can save on labor costs. This work typically doesn’t require a permit, but there’s always a safety risk when dealing with electrical components, so hiring a pro is still a good idea, especially if you aren't handy. Keep in mind you may need a special ladder for high or vaulted ceilings. However, if you are installing a new ceiling fan where there is no current fixture, you must hire a licensed electrician. In most areas, it is required by law that a professional runs new wiring and pulls the necessary permits. Attempting to install wiring yourself can be dangerous and a code violation.

There are several telltale signs to let you know that your ceiling fan needs servicing or replacement. For instance, if it’s wobbling, rotating too slowly, or if your ceiling fan is making noise such as squeaks, buzzes, and thumps, it’s time to have it looked at by a professional. Not only may it indicate a potential problem with the fan itself, but it could also signal a red flag that it’s improperly assembled or there’s an issue with the wiring.

If you’re removing a ceiling fan without visible screws, start by locating the fan canopy—a round cover placed above the fan blades and motor. There should be a thin ring that can be turned counterclockwise to remove the canopy and reveal the screws. After unscrewing the fan, you can disconnect the wires and remove the entire fan from the mounting hardware. For safety, make sure the fan switch is turned off before you remove the canopy. It may be easier to remove the fan blades first, too.

Installing a ceiling fan where no wiring exists is a difficult and potentially dangerous job that should not be attempted as a DIY project. It is recommended to hire a certified electrician to build the necessary electrical infrastructure. In some areas, building codes require this work to be done by a professional to ensure safety and compliance. Due to the complexity, this type of installation is a significant job that could cost up to $2,000.

For a 12x12 room, a fan between 36" and 50" will work, as it falls in the range for spaces up to 144 square feet. These size fans provide adequate air circulation and ensure a comfortable environment without being overpowering. Even better, they come in a broad range of styles, offering aesthetics and functionality, making them suitable choices for maintaining an ideal room temperature and enhancing overall comfort.
