"Image Works refinished my deck--power washed, sanded and painted. Frank and Mike did a terrific job with the painting even with uncooperative weather. Thanks so much to everyone at Image Works! My deck looks brand new!! I would definitely hire them again and I tell my family and friends about them."

"My husband and I had a more complex project, which included painting the inside of a 5200 square feet house, staining beams and staircase, and adding additional work as the project went on. CertaPro was very professional, reliable, and took pride in their work. They were helpful in guiding us on our project in terms of what colors, stains, and additional ways to add extra character to our home. They even helped correct uneven walls, cracks, and baseboards. We are obsessed with how our home looks and will definitely use Craig and his team again! Definitely recommended!"

"STOP-- if your looking for a professional painting contractor, look no further. you just found one. Donald and his crew prepared and painted 2 coats of paint to the exterior of our house. It is a  5 bedroom brick with a lot of wood trim, a rather large job. he started and was finished as per his estimate, there were no " I need more money requests "  as is common with others. also, they sealed and stained a new deck. he is not happy, until you are with his work.no down payments for the job, you pay only when you are happy and they are done. he actually answers the phone, unlike others you call and your call goes straight to voice mail. I would use his company again."

"Gary provided a fair and helpful quote for the repairs we needed.  Once hired, Gary showed up when he said he would and performed the work we expected him to do.
We had a question days later about the size of the concrete pad, and Gary came back & made adjustments.  There was a third item we felt needed a slight tweak and again, Gary was professional and accommodating, making sure we were satisfied with his work.

"Joe and his crew did an incredible job with our "complete" kitchen remodel as well as replacing the ceiling in our living room and refacing all of the walls. They removed all of the old carpeting in the living room, the sub-floor in the kitchen and replaced both rooms with new laminate flooring. The walls and ceilings have been primed and painted beautifully. Extensive electrical rewiring had to be performed in order to bring everything up to code.....and it was quite a headache at times. Joe also did all of the plumbing for the new dishwasher, sink and disposal. They are far more than just painting....they pretty much can do it all. We will definitely hire them again for future projects. Dee B. in East Oakmont"

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Yes, you must thoroughly clean your deck before staining. If you don't, dirt, debris, grease, and mildew can get trapped between the wood and the new stain. This not only looks unsightly but also prevents the stain from penetrating the wood properly, reducing its ability to protect the deck from weather and UV rays. As a result, the stain won't last as long or look as good. Any existing mold or mildew left untreated can continue to grow beneath the new stain, potentially leading to wood rot and structural damage. Always wait at least 48 hours after cleaning for the wood to dry completely before applying stain.

Whether you can paint over your existing paint depends on what’s on there. Most of the time, you’ll want to sand down or scrape off the paint that’s currently coating your surface. Epoxy paint, for example, won’t let new paint stick to the surface. Latex paint is more forgiving and will accept a new coat, but a primer is recommended if you’re switching colors.

Wood stains last anywhere from two to five years, depending on exposure to the elements, your local climate, the type of stain, and the surface it’s on. For instance, vertical surfaces last longer than horizontal surfaces. Some types of woods, like dense hardwoods, will require a recoat yearly, as they are too dense for the stain to absorb. In any event, apply a recoat every 2 to 4 years. As for storage, a can of unopened stain can last up to 5 years, though results may vary.

Painted decks typically require a new coat about once every ten years. In between new coats, it's best to maintain your deck by regularly removing debris, washing it down with non-abrasive cleaners, and staying ahead of structural issues, such as loose boards and rotting wood. In some cases, painting a small section of your deck affected by damage or the sun can lower your costs and workload.

It is not always necessary to remove old stain before restaining a deck. If the previous stain is in good condition and is compatible with the new stain, you may be able to apply a new coat after thorough cleaning. However, if the old stain is in bad condition, flaking, or peeling, it is best to remove it completely to ensure an even surface and proper adhesion for the new coat. Staining over a damaged layer can lead to an uneven finish and poor penetration. For best results, test a small area first and consult the stain manufacturer's guidelines.
