"Mike answered my Home Advisor inquiry about 2 minutes after I hit the enter key on my computer! I had originally wanted to replace my existing water heater with a tankless water heater but I had heard about potentially high maintenance issues with this type of heater in low water usage applications. Mike was very willing to discuss the pros and cons of the tankless water heater and ultimately I decided to go with a standard Bradford-White tank water heater as a replacement. Mike was willing to work around my schedule and completed the job on a Saturday morning in an efficient and professional manner at a fair price. Overall, this was a great experience (and relief) for me. Without hesitation, I would recommend Mike at County Line Plumbing for any of your plumbing needs."

"I had a leaking toilet of unknown origin. The vendor came in very fast and on a Saturday, which was very commendable. Nevertheless, they were not able to fix the leak because they did not have the right part for it. I was told that they had an accident with their regular plumber's truck, so they were using a smaller rental truck that did not have all the equipment and parts they usually have in the normal truck. They came a second time, two days later and indeed fixed the leak. In the process they created a small hole in the wall and they also failed to seal the toilet base by cocking it, because they did not have cocking with them or a filling patch. The promised to come back another day to do that, and that it would be good any way for the toilet base to remain open so that it could dry easier. It took a couple more days due to miscommunication but they did come in and fix it to my satisfaction."

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

Water heater pipes can freeze in one night if outdoor temperatures are cold enough. The lower the temperature, the quicker plumbing tends to freeze. If your pipes are well-insulated and you take proper preventative measures during the winter, your pipes should not freeze as rapidly as unprotected pipes might.

If nothing is coming out of your faucet, you could have frozen pipes, a clogged faucet, or your water supply could be shut off. First, check your shut-off valves. If it's a hot sunny day, you can rule out frozen pipes and look closer at your aerator for signs of mineral deposits. Removing the aerator and cleaning it out can often return water flow. If temperatures are below freezing, you may have frozen pipes. Knowing what to do when pipes freeze is essential for thawing your pipes and preventing them from bursting.

Yes, the thawing process is often the reason frozen pipes burst in the first place. Though it may seem like the freezing itself causes a pipe to burst, it's actually the pressure that builds inside the pipes in your home that really contributes to the pipe bursting. As the ice melts, more pressure builds in the pipes. That pressure increases further if some of the water thaws only to refreeze.

It is safe to flush the toilet even if the pipes are frozen, and this may even help clear out the pipes. But if the supply line is frozen, the toilet won’t refill itself until it’s thawed out. You can still flush by pouring water into the tank to refill it.

There are several types of sink drain stoppers, including pull-out, twist-and-pull, and pop-up. Pull-out sink stoppers can be removed by pulling on the stopper until it comes out of the drain. A twist-and-pull design requires lifting then turning the stopper to lock it in an open position and the opposite action (turning, then pressing down) to close it. A pop-up sink stopper works by pushing down the drain cover to open or close the passageway.
