"Mathew is a very hard working young man. He gave by far the most reasonable price of any other electricians I contacted. Many of them charged a fee to come out to give an estimate that would be deducted from the cost if you hired them. Matthew gave me an estimate on the phone, and stuck to it. He installed two ceiling electrical boxes and two ceiling fans. He arrived at 5:45 in the evening, after having worked all day, and left at almost 9:30. Despite the late hour, he was very pleasant. I highly recommend him. Would definitely use him again."

"Kevin from Legend Electric of Chalfont, PA traveled all the way down to Sussex, and did a fantastic job with the installation of 3 ceiling fans and some other odds and ends that needed to be done electrically speaking. He was incredible and fairly priced."

"Person came out to scope my existing bathroom fan. Noted a new exterior vent and ductwork was needed as air was not being pushed outside of the house leading to moisture trapped in the bathroom ceiling. Scheduling for duct and vent install."

"Great experience during the Coronavirus lockdown. Dave came out and installed the water heater the same day. At the agreed price. And even took away an old one we had at the same price. Was very respectful of social distancing. He even told me everywhere he touched. Outstanding."

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

There are many types of ceiling fans available, each designed for different spaces and needs. Standard ceiling fans are the most common type and work well in most rooms. Low-profile ceiling fans are better suited for rooms with low ceilings. Smart ceiling fans can be controlled with a smartphone or voice commands. For larger spaces with ceilings between 10 and 25 feet high, large ceiling fans are ideal. Dual-motor fans have two motors to produce more airflow in multiple directions. You can also find energy-efficient or Energy-Star models that can be up to 60% more efficient, as well as fans with built-in lights or retractable blades.

To determine if your ceiling box can support a fan, you must check if it is specifically fan-rated. Manufacturers are required to indicate this on the box itself. You may need to remove the existing light fixture to look inside the ceiling box for an inscription stating it is rated for fan use. If you do not see this confirmation, the box is likely not strong enough and must be replaced with a fan-rated junction box. For a proper and safe installation, you should also use a fan brace to secure the new box between the ceiling joists, which provides the necessary support for the fan's weight and motion.

Ceiling fans require periodic cleaning of blades to avoid dust accumulation, checking screws and connections for firmness, and occasional lubrication for components, keeping the fan running smoothly and quietly over time.

If you’re removing a ceiling fan without visible screws, start by locating the fan canopy—a round cover placed above the fan blades and motor. There should be a thin ring that can be turned counterclockwise to remove the canopy and reveal the screws. After unscrewing the fan, you can disconnect the wires and remove the entire fan from the mounting hardware. For safety, make sure the fan switch is turned off before you remove the canopy. It may be easier to remove the fan blades first, too.

Ceiling fans can be a great way to cool your home without the expensive utility bill of running an air conditioner. Plus, ceiling fans can sometimes run in both directions, pushing hot air down in winter and pulling cold air up in summer. With that said, air conditioning might be the only thing that helps if you live in a very warm climate.
