"After a horrific experience with another granite company that ended with them rudely telling me to go find someone else, I visited Angie's List and found Eastern Surfaces. A call to them revealed that they had the style of granite we were looking for, and that we could come to their location and get a plant tour, select the slab we wanted, and view other choices.
We made an appointment (not actually necessary if you come during the week, which we did) and met with Lee. She answered all of our questions, and took us on a tour of their facility. Very impressive place with 10 CNC cutting machines, water jet cutters, and dozens of people making granite, marble, and quartz into counter tops. Lee had arranged for the rather uncommon level 4 granite we were looking for to be arranged so we could see slabs side by side. Even though these came from the same lot, there was a lot of variation from slab to slab. We chose a slab and she marked it as ours before we returned to the show room. On the way back, she pointed out the "boneyard" of remnants where we could shop for smaller projects, at greatly reduced per square foot prices. Back in the showroom, we were offered 5 edge styles, and she took our drawing and calculated a rough price. Even though I did not have the Angie's List coupon printed out, she accepted it by me saving a copy from my phone and then emailing her the copy. She accepted a 50% deposit on my credit card, and we went away quite happy.
A few days later, Joan contacted us to arrange a time for the measurer to come verify the measurements I provided. The granite was going into our vacation home, and Joan worked with us to get us on the schedule for a day that we'd be around anyway.
The day of the measure, the measurer contacted us to say he was there, but we weren't. Apparently, he was sent to our main residence, not the vacation home. He was too far to make it to our vacation home (2 hours distance between the two), so Joan re-scheduled us for another day we'd be at the vacation home and threw in a large cutting board made from the same granite as a "we messed up" gift.
The second measurer, Chris, was super nice and efficient. He used a computerized measuring device, and noted the cabinets were not plumb at the front, and that I should get them closer than they were. Before he left, he showed me the picture his CAD system made of the job, and asked if we would like to make some changes (which he recommended). While we didn't take his recommendations, we did appreciate him asking. He had been an installer, and his experience allowed him to show us how the granite would be cut to fit our space.
We had contracted for the "slabsmith" picture. This is an extra cost service that Eastern provides that superimposes the actual granite slab onto the CAD drawing, so we could see the pattern of the granite as it would be cut. Since our granite had very different patterns across the slab, we ponied up the extra cost. Chris was there on Friday. On Monday morning, we got the slabsmith picture via email. We looked at it, compared it to our own pictures of the slab, and agreed that the technician who laid out the cuts chose the sections of slab we would have chose. We confirmed with Joan that we agreed with the slabsmith diagram.
The day of the install, 4 days later, saw the two installers (names forgotten, sorry) arrive on time, protect my hardwood floors, and bring in the two huge pieces of granite. One of these weighed over 400 pounds. They quickly got them into position, plumbed them using shims (the cabinets were still a bit off, despite my best efforts), and then epoxied the seam and glued the sections to the cabinets themselves using silicone adhesive. The sink, a Kraus undermount asymmetrical design I bought from Home Depot, went into the pre-cut hole and was bolted and caulked. The installers handed me the cutting board, and noted that I should put some feet on it before using it. They also cautioned me not to let the plumber at the sink until the next day, to give time for all of the glue to set. They answered my care questions (e.g., what do I clean it with? How often should it be sealed?) and cleaned up EVERYTHING. No dust on the floor from drilling. No errant nuts or bolts anywhere. The top of the granite and the sink were immaculate.
Overall, I am extremely pleased to have found them and used them.

"My experience was great. Dennie was very responsive after I made the initial contact though Angie's List. I included pictures of my old damaged sink. Dennie gave me a quote over the phone and he agreed to come to my home which was an hour and a half way. We made the appointment, he arrived on time and I had a newly resurfaced sink in about 4 hours. I would hire Dennie again. He was responsive to my calls, on time and did wonderful work. He cleaned up everything perfectly. My sink looks like new!"

"Mark is an AMAZING contractor, not only as a professional but a really nice personable guy. He arrived every day in a cheerful mood, and did an absolutely outstanding job remodeling my condo master bathroom at a very fair price, and I am totally thrilled with the outcome. He also installed a bathroom fan that other contractors said could not be done or didn't want to take the time to figure out how to do it. Kudos to Mark on that accomplishment!! He made sure I was happy with everything that was done and if I made a change, was more than gracious to make that change, something I have not found with other contractors I have hired in the past. He finished the job within the time period promised and wasn't charged one cent more than his estimate; in fact he purchased things that I needed along the way and didn't even want payment for those items. I could not end this review without mentioning his helper, Dave, who accompanied him every day. He was a very polite, respectful young man and even took the time to do something for me that wasn't even related to the remodeling project. I highly recommend Mark for any type of remodeling and would definitely use him again in the future if and when the need arises. Thank you so much Mark for a job well done! You are the BEST!!"

"Excellent! I can't say enough good things about this project. We live in a 1920 Dutch Colonial, our walkway was falling apart. Miguel gave us samples to look at that would match our front Brick porch. The brickyard he sent us to allowed us to bring samples home to compare. He ordered what we wanted and within 4 days began the project. He came early in the morning and stayed well into the evening and completed the job in 2 days from demolition and removal of the old walk to the installation of the new one. He seeded the lawn that edged it. We selected him because he a patio and driveway and walkway for our nextdoor neighbors. We've lived here since 1974 and people trust the contractors we use. We highly recommend him and we always like to hire local owner operated businesses. For an additional fee he planted 2 trees in the front of the house. We are very satisfied."

"Project went great! Billy the installer worked with us and had good ideas, solved any problems he encountered and did an excellent job with installation and finish work. Gary our salesman, was also very helpful with planning and layout and recommended a tile installer that did an amazing job.
Thomas Kitchens also gutted and remodeled our entire kitchen this past summer and again did an excellent job. We are very happy with all the work Thomas Kitchens has done for us.

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can tile a shower as a DIY project, and you can save hundreds of dollars in labor costs by doing so. However, you’ll need to rent or buy quite a few tools and supplies for the job, including a saw, tile nippers, and a new shower pan. In terms of the work itself, you should be prepared to tackle a variety of different tasks, including measuring and ordering materials, removing old tile, waterproofing the wall, adding rows of tile, grouting, and more.

There isn’t a one-size-fits-all best tile for a dog shower. Consider your budget, tile durability, aesthetics, and, most importantly, practicality. Avoid tiles your dog will slide around on. Pebbles are a great non-slip option, but are pricey and tricky to install. Glass might look modern, but it’s not scratch-resistant. Small, floor-rated ceramic or porcelain tiles are economical and have many grout lines that make the surface more slip-resistant. Pick a matte finish rather than a shiny tile if you want it to hide stray mud and hairs better.

The rule tells you how to cut tile to install it in a corner. The 3/4/5 rule recommends that you should have 3 feet across on one straight line, four feet on the other perpendicular line, and 5 feet of length from the end of one of the lines to the other. You’re making a right triangle with the tile, and the hypotenuse (the line across from where the 3-foot lie and 4-foot line meet) should be 5 feet long.

As long as you follow the instructions on your peel-and-stick tile packaging, it should not damage your walls. A possible instance when you may accidentally damage your walls is if you install tiles improperly using additional adhesives that aren’t recommended.

Also, you can damage your walls if you’re not careful when removing tile. For example, you could accidentally make holes in the drywall with a paint scraper if you don’t heat the adhesive long enough before trying to pry it off.

It’s not necessarily normal for tiles to lift, although it’s one of the common issues people may have with their tile flooring. Tiles correctly installed by pros with expansion joints should not lift over time. However, if the installation was done poorly, you might see tiles tenting or lifting as the house settles. This is more common in high-moisture areas with extreme temperatures.
