You put your garbage out. Your garbage gets picked up. With most waste collection, disposal and recycling companies, the job ends there. Not with Advanced Disposal. We provide residential solid waste and recycling services to thousands of families and neighborhoods every day. But we take more than garbage.

"My wife and I moved from altoona pa in nov.2017. We used scarangella disposal for our trash pickup. Our account was paid for 1yr.and was good through feb.2018. Scarangella wants you as a customer to be paid at least two months in advance. So when we moved we thought a refund was due. No,when you stop services they want to keep your money. Seems like a win-win for them. We made numerous phone calls and sent a letter to John scarangella but he chose not to respond back. Scarangella's answering machine was the only communication we had with this company. It was sometime in feb. 2018 john scarangella did call us and stated that he had sent a $61.00 check. Since we had not received it John said he would look into the status of the check. We have not had any communication with him since and we have yet to recieve any check as of this date. We contacted the better business Bureau to let them know of his company's actions. Scarangella did not get back to them either. A friend back in altoona even tried to contact scarangella to try and find out why he chose not to send a check or correspond with us which did not get any results. It is really sad that a company is able to exist when treating people this way. If John thinks this is ok which he seems to, he is one sad individual. How many other people has he treated this way (stole their money)? The bottom line is do not use scarangella disposal. NO professionalism with this company whatso ever. When you as a customer have a concern or cut services that is not in scarangella's favor they will cut off communication and will keep your money. Always contact the better business Bureau , angies list and check all reviews before using any company for its services.beware of scarangella disposal unless you want to be trashed. Garbage Collection questions, answered by experts

Garbage disposals are durable appliances that usually last at least eight years as long as you clean and maintain them. It’s relatively rare for a garbage disposal to break on its own, as most malfunctions happen due to user errors, like overstuffing the grinding compartment or damaging the blades by trying to dispose of metal or bone. Eventually, cracks or leaks could develop in the unit, which requires a full replacement.

You can pour boiling water down the garbage disposal only when cleaning it. Use hot water to flush baking soda and vinegar down the drain for a quick clean-up. For running food down the disposal, always use cold water.

Garbage disposals fit the drains of nearly every sink out there due to universal drain hole sizes of 3 1/2 to 4 inches, but the same isn’t true for the housing underneath the sink. You need plenty of room to fit a garbage disposal under there, so measure the space ahead of time and use those dimensions when shopping for a new model. If you’re replacing an existing model, get one in that size.

Generally speaking, it’s absolutely worth it to repair a garbage disposal, so long as it’s eight years old or younger. Once you pass that eight-year threshold, it depends on the issue. If it’s a simple jam and the core components remain unaffected, call a local plumber for a quick repair. If it seems like the motor is wearing down, spring for a replacement unit.

The two main negatives of garbage disposals are they are a safety hazard in homes with children, and they frequently encounter blockage issues. While they might be annoying to fix and monitor, garbage disposals can significantly lower your trash use and are a great way to dispose of organic waste. While there are negatives, the vast majority of homeowners acknowledge the positives are enough to install a disposal in their home.
