"Jose Lopez, the owner of Luna Masonry, was very easy to work with. He responded to all questions and provided positive and creative solutions to any inquiries about materials, designs and function of the projects. He and his crew also worked long hours, including evenings and weekends. I would highly recommend this company for any Masonry work you need done!!"

"Had a retaining wall done? Eric was great in keeping me informed of all steps up to the very end and was easy to work with. His team did an outstanding job and the wall looks great. It is nice to have a company that shows pride in its work and cares about the customer. I highly recommend them."

"When Dave got done with my French drain i told him i was having trouble with my pond in the back yard. Every year I had to rebuild it, leaks, leaves and debris. I asked for a quote to replace it and decided to have Preferred do another project for me. Again very please with the design and sound of the running water. The crew was very courteous and kept me informed of what they were doing and if liked the placement of the stone. My wife is very pleased with the results and can't wait to be able to sit outside when the weather gets warmer. THANKS Preferred!"

"Mason and Dillon were absolutely wonderful to work with. They were both very wonderful and knowledgeable. They took the time to help us fully understand all the processes for both dealing with insurance and coordinating with the plumbers. They made a very stressful time so much easier and very very appreciative. 5 stars for sure!"

"Colt was called a day ahead to inform me he was able to come out earlier than expected which was great for my schedule. He was prompt and professional. He didn't give me a quote because it was determined there were no foundation issues. He gave me the contact information for a couple on contractors who could address my property's drainage issues."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

The United States Postal Service (USPS) recommends placing a mailbox 6 inches to 8 inches back from the curb. If your lot is unusual, speak with town authorities or the local post office to determine the correct placement.

If your old bricks are in decent condition and you have the space to store them where they’ll be protected from the elements, keeping old bricks is often worthwhile. You’d spend anywhere from $70 to a few hundred dollars to have them removed from your property, in which case you won’t be able to use them for future projects. Holding on to old bricks in good condition means you can use them later for other DIY projects, potentially saving yourself some money on disposal and new materials down the road.

Two types of masonry are veneer masonry and solid masonry. Veneer masonry is thin brick or stone material attached to the face of a building. With veneer masonry, the walls support the weight of the masonry products rather than the masonry being built on a concrete footing. Solid masonry is a wall or other brick or stone structure built on a concrete footing, and the masonry supports itself.

You can purchase from many brick manufacturers and distributors via their websites, where you can also get estimates based on the quantity you need. You’ll find bricks at your local home improvement stores as well, though they won’t have as much of a variety to choose from. As for antique bricks, secondary selling websites like eBay can be a great resource.

Depending on the amount of soot present, you can vacuum some of it using a brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner. Then, remove the leftovers with a mild cleaner, such as dish soap or vinegar mixed with water. Before applying a cleaning solution, saturate the bricks with clean water to prevent the cleaner from penetrating beyond the surface and causing structural damage to the bricks.
