"I couldn?t recommend Kyle enough to anyone who needs a contractor. Not only did he help me? to save money before I even signed with him. He?s just the type of person you?d actually want in your home, the honest kind. Heck I?d leave my dog with him and wouldn?t worry. Seriously though, every step of the way he was there to help and at what I felt was a fair price in today?s world. About my project. I needed a bathroom redone, and some drywall work. Kyle gave me the options and worked with me guided me along the way so I made the best decisions for myself. I chose my own materials, paint color. Did my own painting and the easy stuff. He gave such great input to help me do that. The bathroom turned out amazing. The floors, dry wall, vanity, mirror, toilet reset, new trim, are all new. The tub was not replaced. Literally blown away at the dry wall work and texturing? magical blending ability and he hand shaped a corner that required custom work. Came out perfect 10/10 will hire again"

Drywall questions, answered by experts

A common cause of separation between a wall and the ceiling is truss lift—this can happen to the ceiling of rooms directly under the attic when the seasons change and wood building materials dry out, shrink, and shift. Roof trusses often dry out at different speeds, and if the bottom pieces dry out faster than the top pieces, they can shrink and pull the attached drywall away from ceilings and walls, causing cracks. Fortunately, truss lift is only a cosmetic problem, not a structural problem, and you can fix it by separating the ceiling drywall from the roof trusses, and patching the cracks.

It doesn’t matter which way you lay drywall, and you can choose to install it horizontally or vertically depending on the size of the wall and how tall the ceiling is. It’s easier to lay drywall sheets vertically if you have a taller ceiling, but laying sheets horizontally makes it easier to apply joint compound.

Drywall is safe to cut as long as you follow proper procedures, such as wearing personal protective equipment and using the right tools to score and cut the drywall. When cutting new drywall, it can release dust with silica and other compounds that could pose health risks. Leave cutting drywall to the pros, or wear a high-quality respiratory mask, goggles, and other PPE when handling drywall.

To hide drywall edges, you need to properly apply drywall tape and multiple layers of joint compound. These materials hide the seams between drywall sheets and fill the holes from drywall screws, leaving behind a smooth, flat finish to paint over. Apply joint compound smoothly, and finish the job by sanding the walls to make sure you fully hide drywall edges and other imperfections.

Installing or repairing plaster on ceilings differs slightly from performing the same motions on a wall. You’ll apply slightly less plaster to lower the overall weight of the ceiling. Wall texturing is common, whereas most ceilings are smooth plaster. Tough coat plaster is strong, meaning you can use less while retaining a solid surface.
