Buck's Stove Palace is small business that has operating in Portland since 1974. The founder and owner Buck has decades of experience in both new and antique stoves.

"It went smoothly. They always kept in touch with email's & phone calls. They called 1/2 hour before scheduled time to say they were on their way. The laid down mats to protect my floors. The cleaned out the insert and vacuumed all around so not to spill any debris into the room. They were worth every penny. They said the stove was about 600 lbs. They carefully explained about the EPA needed proof that the stove was removed & destroyed which I had no idea it was needed."

We do residential, and light commercial jobs. We specialize in Marble, Limestone, and Soapstone (and all of the other stones as well!). Our clients are all from word of mouth referrals (except for Angie's list). We specialize in custom work. I invite you to call us for your work- large jobs or small ones, they are all important. We also do repair work, either in our shop, or on site if needed. Your broken table, or other stone may be salvaged. Just call and I can tell you if it is possible (I have personally repaired "Humpty Dumpty" at least 1000 times, and most of the time you couldn't tell he fell off of the wall!) We are a family owned heating company with about 30 employees. Having been in business for over 60 years, we are the most experienced HVAC company on the central Oregon coast. "We had a technician come out to replace a part on our furnace. We asked him the price on the part before he replaced it. He went out to his truck and came back in with the box and said the part was $10. It took him one hour to replace the part. He spent another half hour trying to sell us on a heat pump. We received a bill with a total amount of $250 - no break down whatsoever. When we called we learned that we were being charged, 2 hours service time and $58 for the part. We disputed the charges and were told that either we pay the entire bill or we'll be sent to collections. They refused to send us an itemized bill. We were sent to collections the next day. We will be reporting this business to the BBB and will see them in small claims court. Make sure to look up reviews on other sites regarding this company. They have a history of unethical business practices. Use ANY other company - this place is fraudulent!"

While hardwoods are the best woods to burn, a few types of woods should be avoided when burning. Wood that has not had time to season, or “green wood,” should be avoided. The extra water in the wood makes it smoke horribly, which is not a quality you want. Additionally, it’s best to avoid any wood that is manufactured or has been treated, including coated or sealed wood, painted wood, or pressure-treated wood. These woods have chemicals that will be released into your air when burned and can cause health problems.

You don’t need electricity for a wood-burning stove unless it has a blower fan. Some wood-burning stoves include blower fans to help with heat distribution, but blower fans have a motor and use electricity to power the fan. You can still operate a wood stove without using the blower fan, so it’s a good source of heat if you have a power outage or are looking to lower your electric bill during winter.

The most common sign of a carbon monoxide leak is the visible black soot marks on the walls near your wood stove. An excess accumulation of smoke in other rooms of your home could also indicate that your wood burning stove is leaking carbon monoxide. If you notice either of these signs or are still unsure, it’s best to leave the premises and contact your fire department to check your home’s levels.
