"John was fantastic. He explained what the problem was - pavement of our driveway settling. He was able to provide a good temporary solution while we decide on next steps. He is dependable, personable and honest. I would gladly hire him / his company again."

"Boy are they fast and VERY good at their work. I was more than impressed with the extra work these men did with out being asked. It was the best. I had debated about doing this but when London gave me the quote I knew it was a worthy investment. The men were careful and asked where the extra rock could be put. I am grinning ear to ear. I simply love the way the driveway looks and how it feels to drive on it. After 65 years of a gravel driveway. this is magic."

"I was initially unsure hiring them for landscape as they are a construction company. But i was desperate to get the yard mowed and weeded. They are two brothers who started their company in October. The worked like dogs for over two hours. They did a BEAUTIFUL job. The yard has not looked this good in years. The mowed, sprayed, dug weeds, picked up leaves, blew the front and back and totally cleaned up after their work. I would recommend them to anyone. I am having them back to clean the moss off of the roof, and have hired them to come back every two weeks to mow and spray, at least thru the summer. Just got lucky as I called 4 companies and they were the only ones that responded. Just got lucky. GK, M.D."

"My neighbor used Rainland to replace his driveway and public sidewalk and I approached them in hopes of getting a good price on my driveway as they were working in the neighborhood. I'd received other bids and Rainland's was the lowest. I adjusted the job to include stamping and coloring, with a border of a different design. I found Tony (the supervisor) very easy to work with, but the result wasn't perfect. The driveway abuts the foundation of my house and cement was splattered on the shingles. Stakes were left in the ground after the job was done and the driveway doesn't appear to be completely straight when observing it from the street. Also, the surface of the driveway is not flat, there are shallow depressions that form puddles when it rains. However, I no longer have to contend with the lake that used to form in a large crack by the side step! The City didn't approve the driveway design at the street and Rainland had to redo the edges and charged me for it, as well as an additional amount to have the driveway sealed. The step was done a year later and more concrete was splashed on adjacent shingles. All in all, I am glad the job is done but quality is lacking and it ended up costing me much more than the original bid. I will never again take the lowest bid!"

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

Sometimes, when people talk about asphalt driveways, they’re actually referring to asphalt concrete, which is a completely different compound. Asphalt concrete is asphaltic cement combined with sand or grit. It is significantly more lasting and durable than regular asphalt but also much more expensive. If you’re considering using asphalt concrete, ask an asphalt company for their expert opinions.

Gravel is the most economical and least expensive driveway material, costing between $1 and $3 per square foot. This is significantly cheaper than alternatives like asphalt or concrete. However, it's important to consider long-term costs, as gravel driveways require regular maintenance. You will likely need to add new gravel filling once or twice a year and regularly rake it to keep it level, which can add to the overall cost over time.

The average cost of 1,500 square feet of asphalt ranges from about $10,500 to $22,500, depending on location, thickness, base material, and how accessible the job site is to crews and equipment. Keep in mind that your asphalt material cost may vary depending on its type, ranging from porous asphalt to heated blacktop. Standard asphalt costs $7 to $13 per square foot.

Several materials are suitable for steep driveways. Gravel and crushed stone are affordable options that provide good traction. Permeable pavers—such as plastic, rubber, or concrete—filled with gravel or crushed stones are also excellent, as they allow water to drain without causing erosion and perform well in ice and snow. Another option is resin, which can be coated with an anti-slip finish and helps prevent puddles. For added stability, you can install a retaining wall to prevent pavers and gravel from shifting over time.

Yes, recycled asphalt driveway costs can be substantially lower than new asphalt. With new asphalt costing between $90 and $190 per ton, this option can cost as much as 10 times more than laying down asphalt millings.
