Having been recommended to us by our general contractor (i.e., no previous problems with Terry Hellem the owner) we took it on faith that he was reputable. After the initial consultation we gave a $2,000 deposit to get the process going. At the beginning he was very attentive to our requests and delivered initial drafts on time. This all changed after we received the last of the revised drafts needed by our contractor for a preliminary bid. As part of our written contract it stipulated that Terry would supply both parties with copies of the final plans and get the necessary permits after bid approval. After receiving the remaining payment he assured us that the final plans were nearly complete; this was January 2008. Since that time we've been given the "run around" about the final plans, its now April 2008 (3 weeks before start date) and we've not heard from him in a month. Neither the builder nor I can reach him by phone or email. I've started legal proceedings against Terry Hellem. Follow up report: Lawsuit awarded against Terry Hellem in the amount of $10,000 (for services and lawyer fees). Judgment submitted to collections agency for processing against Terry Hellem's personal assets when uncovered. Credit agencies have been notified of judgment, so to you Mr. Hellem I hope you finally get what you deserve...you messed with our lives, so using the justice system I'm going to mess with yours!
Response from Accucon Construction Consultants
"Dearest, [Member Name Removed] I would like to make this right with you. And, I would have done it sooner. But, as you know, I was going through some extreme circumstances - divorce - at the time causing some serious mental duress. The elder body of my Christian congregation investigated, and, determined I had scriptural grounds (Matthew 19:9), in 2008, Due to sexual immorality by my then partner, with a coworker at place of employment. It is much like a death of a close family member. A spiritual Death. Young kids involved. It was the most difficult experience I had ever experienced, and I was dysfunctional for a while, in a catatonic state. I deal with clinical depression. Then 2009 economic crash occurred, bankruptcy followed. That’s when I met my second wife. 14 years now together and faithful. Shortly, after that as I was working hard to be made whole again, I had a medical emergency involving diverticulitis, which resulted in medical costs. Shortly after that, as we both worked hard to be made whole again, my second wife whom I married in 2009, experienced a emergency gull bladder removal, that caused her to be in the hospital weeks, because the doctors had to wait for the resulting pancreatitis swelling to go down before removing her gull bladder. This resulted in more medical costs to be resolved. Shortly after that, as we were working hard to be made whole from that, my oldest son broke his right ankle in three places, and during the first surgery, the doctor put a dirty screw into his bone. The staff infection in his bone marrow resulted in eight surgeries over almost a two year period, In the end, they had to amputate just below the knee. Last July, we were able to sell our house at the top of the market, and I was able to pay off all of our debt, and paid off all of my child support to my ex-wife, as my youngest son was over 18 at that time. And, now, I have an opportunity to resolve this with you. Please email me at [email protected] So that we can make arrangements. Thank you."

The work was completed quickly and professionally. Our contractor was happy with it, and the city of Beaverton approved it right away.
