The modern suburban and small town home of today has become an ideal lightning target. The home owner would do well to recognize lightning for the destructive force that it is and protect against this major life and fire hazard.\n\nDonohue's Lightning Rods is based in Missouri, near the factory where most of the residential and commercial lightning rod supplies are manufactured. Jim travels regularly to Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, and New York. Call today to find out when Jim will be in your area. For installations outside Missouri, Kansas, or Texas, Jim waits until there are a few customers lined up, thus being able to provide the same quality services at affordable prices.\n\n\n**WE DO NOT DO ELECTRICAL SERVICES.** (ONLY LIGHTNING RODS)

"Nothing is wrong with our standby generator right now but we were being proactive and looking for a company for emergency service calls and to perform the annual maintenance. Although they have not actually performed any work for us yet, their rates were very reasonable and more competitive than others we talked to and we have scheduled Faith Electric to perform our annual maintenance in March 2018."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Volts and watts aren’t directly convertible units—they measure different aspects of electricity. Volts measure electrical potential, while watts quantify the power. The relationship between the two is defined by the equation: Power (watts)= Voltage (volts) x Current (amperes). In other words, the product of volts and amps results in watts, but there is no fixed conversion of volts into watts.

A home warranty usually covers electrical wiring work, depending on your specific plan. Most home warranty plans cover repairs for major appliances and home systems, including failure due to wear and tear. Home warranties aren’t as common as homeowners insurance, but they are more likely to cover old wiring.

There is no blanket figure for a residential home’s electrical load, since load varies by the size of the home, how many appliances are used, and the efficiency of their electrical systems. Typically, however, it’s safe to assume 40 to 60 amps is the average electrical load of a residential home.

There are a few telltale signs that it’s time for a replacement. You should consider an upgrade if:

  • Your panel is over 25 years old

  • You’re adding a new electrical system

  • Your current system doesn’t offer the power you need

  • Your home is a jungle of power strips

On average, the cost to wire a new home ranges from $2 to $5 per square foot. The cost to rewire a house is around the same, ranging from $2 to $4 per square foot. Often, though, new wiring comes with lower overall costs since it’s much easier to access a home’s foundation.
