"The estimate was a good discussion. He's an Arborist which was really helpful. The work was fast and the next day. The workers friendly and responsive to a request I made. They cleaned up the yard well. Looking forward to the stump-grinding which is scheduled. Thank you very much!"

"All went well. We needed to make a schedule change so they could finish another project but the wait was short (1-2 days). Once they started their work at my home, they stayed with it until completion. The planting was done in two parts to accommodate the best planting times for the plants and the tree. Andy was easy to reach and very responsive."

"Had a large part of a tree come down from a storm. Also needed some other trees trimmed back. Ray came out within a day. He was very easy to talk with and explained everything that needed to be done. His price was very reasonable and he got me on his schedule within a few days. He did more than he originally said and didnâ t charge any extra. Would absolutely use him again for tree removal and trimming."

"Excellent work, went over and above trimming my trees and removing a spruce and another large tree in the backyard. I had four estimates and Mike gave me the best price. The 4 man crew cleaned up everything they cut. The only thing I was disappointed in was he did not tell me the stump grinder who came the next day did not clean up or take all the grindings from the stumps!"

"I could not be happier with Vinecourt Landscaping. Jill was always on top of everything and kept me in the loop...They kept to the dates I needed for them to have the deck done and everything. I have actually found 2 other projects and will have Vinecourt do them, as I know and trust them completely!! Everyone in my new neighborhood LOVES the new deck, almost as much as I do!"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Yes, pruning makes trees stronger because it fosters proper growth, weight distribution, and balance of the crown. By increasing the structural integrity of the tree through pruning, it’s less likely to experience disease, pests, broken limbs, and storm damage. Pruning the right branches and limbs is key to improving a tree’s strength and balance.

If you’re buying a small tree with lots of room to grow, expect to pay around $100 to $200 for a potted version. But if you’re buying a larger tree—say one over 10 feet—prices rise, starting in the $500 to $600 range and increasing quickly from there. Keep in mind that paying for professional palm tree planting or transplanting services will increase the cost.

If it’s your property, then you can plant a tree near power lines, but it’s not the best idea. Any vegetation that grows within 10 feet or so of power lines will fall under the responsibility of the utility company, and they may trim or remove it as necessary. If you do move forward with your plan, try to choose a smaller ornamental tree, plant it as far away from the power lines as you can, and keep it trimmed to avoid future problems.

Salt, herbicide, light deprivation, boiling water, and burning can all help dissolve a tree stump. You can also bury the tree stump in soil or mulch to help it rot naturally. Killing a tree stump prevents future regrowth, but you may also remove it by digging it out or grinding it.

Whether tree roots will continue to grow after a tree has been cut down depends on the species. Some tree roots will eventually die because they can no longer get nutrients through photosynthesis. However, other species that reproduce through root sprouts can continue to grow and produce new sprouts for seven years or more. For example, the roots of elms, ficus, and willows tend to regrow aggressively, while the roots of pines, oaks, and maples will typically die. To determine if a root system is still active, look for new sprouts on the old trunk, stump, or any exposed roots.
