"Mr. Electric provided excellent service for me under difficult circumstances. A building contractor damaged a wire and buried it under 42” of concrete. Ryan Corley, Mr. Electric’s wire detection specialist, was able to locate the wire accurately. Electricians Jeff Shipkosky and Khefren Johnson spent two and a half very long days, in 93-degree heat, digging around the perimeter of my house. Both ends of the damaged wire were eventually located six feet underground, which is considerable deeper than code requires. Justin David, Mr. Electric’s manager, was here working alongside his men and provided all the support possible to them. He maintained full contact and communication with me throughout the entire process. These men, along with a crew of assistants, are a class act company. I was very impressed at the dedication of Mr. Electric and recommend them highly."

If you want good work done at a very reasonable price, Go with Steve @ Quick Connect. He made quick work of our lath and plaster walls and added the 4 outlets we needed. I'd hire him again in a heartbeat!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Your Lorain home is likely ready for electrical upgrades if it was built before 1960, has a panel rated at 100 amps or less, or contains outdated wiring like cloth-wrapped or aluminum types. Homes lacking GFCI outlets in kitchens, bathrooms, or outdoor spaces should be updated. If you’re planning renovations or notice flickering lights, an electrical safety evaluation is a smart first step.

Helpful?

In Lorain, frequent breaker trips, flickering lights during storms, or outlets that stop working in damp weather are warning signs. Warm or discolored outlets, burning odors, or visible rust on panels suggest urgent issues. If your home still has knob-and-tube or aluminum wiring, or you rely heavily on extension cords, it’s time to have a professional assess your electrical safety and consider updating your system.

Helpful?

Lorain’s proximity to Lake Erie brings high humidity, heavy snowfall, and frequent thunderstorms, all of which affect electrical projects. Moisture-resistant wiring and weatherproof outdoor outlets are essential for preventing corrosion and electrical hazards. Backup generators are a smart choice due to winter outages. Reinforcing exterior service lines and using elevated installations in flood-prone areas can help maintain electrical safety and reliability year-round.

Helpful?

In Lorain, enhancing electrical safety for families means installing GFCI outlets, especially in areas prone to moisture from Lake Erie. Use tamper-resistant outlets and secure outlet covers to prevent accidents with kids or pets. Consider motion-sensor lighting for dark hallways or basements, and ensure all wiring is properly grounded. Organizing cords and adding whole-home surge protection can further boost electrical safety during Lorain’s long indoor seasons.

Helpful?

When planning electrical work in Lorain, consider the age of your home—many properties have outdated wiring that may not meet current safety standards. Homes near Lake Erie or in flood zones benefit from raised outlets and moisture barriers. If you live close to industrial areas, electrical interference may require special solutions. Always ensure your project aligns with OH electrical codes and coordinate with local utilities for any necessary service upgrades.
