"Steve got in touch and installed a storm door and new toilet within two days. Steve was very polite and did a great job. He cleaned up and put the cardboard in the recycle can and took it and the old toilet to the curb for me. I highly recommend Steve & Sons. Was a very positive experience. Thanks Steve."

"Terrific. Once the service call was scheduled I received a text with a picture of the person who would be doing the work. Thomas arrived on time and was very pleasant. He was able to repair the toilet promptly, which given it's age, was great news. We did not want to replace the toilet at this time."

"Great! Dave actually arrived early to begin work. He and his partner always get right to it. Dave is always very careful but extremely efficient. We have used him for several projects, and he always meets or exceeds our expectations. Quite frankly, I would rather wait for Dave than use another plumber. The outside faucets are top quality and installation was perfect. The larger handles are ergonomically great for senior citizens who may have lost some hand strength over the years! I love the ease of turning on and off with no drips. All other jobs performed equally well. Dave will be doing small bath installations of toilet and cabinet soon and has already prepared plumbing to accept new items."

"I wanted to convert my tub to a shower, I did a lot of homework on this and got many estimates from handimen to plummers, most came from Angie's List and a few Locally. All the prices were different. I went with Mr. Rooter because he was easy to talk to, extreamly nice and gave me more bang for my buck, his estimate included the shower doors (which most wanted 500.00 and up for just that) he also repaired the wall above the shower to make it a whole lot prettier and matched the shower, his estimate also included a new floor in the bathroom because the old one was going to be tore up anyway with the new installation of the shower, he took up the toilet, installed the floor and put a new seal and the toilet back. The job took 2 days and looks beautiful, I am so happy I had this done, and Ian the plummer was the best. I would certenly use him again, as a matter of fact I did have him come back to install a new faucet in back of the wash tub in the basement, another great job well done. I will certenly put him on my speed dial.

Toilets questions, answered by experts

Technically, you can put an elongated toilet seat on a round toilet, but it’s not a good idea. Elongated toilet seats are a few inches longer than round toilets, so they will hang over the front edge of your toilet, which isn’t appealing. Additionally, an unsupported toilet seat or portion of a toilet seat is more likely to crack and shift, which could result in injury to whoever uses the toilet. Always match your toilet seat style to your toilet, or replace the toilet entirely if you’re looking to switch styles.

If a bolt at the bottom of your toilet tank is loose, it can directly cause a leak. If a bolt securing the toilet base to the floor is loose, it won’t directly cause a leak but can lead to the same result over time. That’s because the loose bolts will eventually move the wax seal or cause cracks in the bowl from the toilet being wobbly.

Left unattended, a leaking toilet will eventually cause water damage or mold growth. If you’re a homeowner, you can file an insurance claim for water damage. However, that can be a long and tedious process; sometimes, your insurance company may not cover the damage. Therefore, it’s always best to fix any leak you notice right away if you can.

If your toilet won’t stop running, you might have a bad fill valve. This may be the case if the valve has calcium or debris buildup, is cracked, or shows visible signs of wear and tear. A bad fill valve may also be the culprit if you’ve already checked the flapper and chain and adjusted the fill height to no avail.

The main cause of bathroom leaks is seals and connectors that loosen or deteriorate over time, causing leaks to develop. It's important to stay on top of your bathroom materials, as toilets, showers, and sinks all have different lifespans. Toilets and faucets last between 10 and 15 years on average with regular maintenance, but different parts may have shorter lifespans than others.
