"We own a pool company and hired them as sub contractors to apply the plaster coat on a new pool. Everything was done perfectly with a wonderful finish. They were easy and polite to work with. Great family owned operation. Owner was on site the day of application and checked on everything 24 hours later. Excellent and fair pricing."

"Since moving into our new home we have experienced so much financial hardship due to poor maintenance from old owners. Extensive plumbing required after basement flooding and remodeling of entire basement. Pool didn't even have a liner in it even though previous owners claimed there was a new one and it was well maintained. The inspectors for the pool said it had probably sat uncared for at least 15 years. Pump was totally shot and inside pool was all corroded. We plan to use this company as soon as we can get the funds together. We have raised 9 grandchildren for the past 11 years due to the death of their parents and we still have 5 living with us. Finances are very rough for us at this point in time. Just praying the pool will not become a mosquito nest for the summer. Thank you for your assistance with the referral. Arthur and Betty Straka"

"I have had several other pool closing and opening companies that were not reliable. Al arrived on the scheduled date and updated me on the time he would arrive since he had a delay witj a previous closing. He was very thorough and gave great service. I will probably hire him next year to install a new pool liner. I am highly satisfied with his work."

"The entire project was completed efficiently and promptly. The pool removal project was completed with little impact on the rest of my property. The finished project is amazing. There is no indication of there ever being a pool. The extended lawn will be lovely once it is fully grown.

I appreciated the level of communication from John Ullrich as the project progressed. I was informed of each step of the process.

I would recommend John Ullrich to anyone considering removing a swimming pool in the future.

Pool and Spa Servicing questions, answered by experts

No. In fact, some owners prefer to “summerize” their hot tubs and use them primarily over winter to enjoy the contrast of cold and hot water. It’s possible to keep the tub filled and running year-round, and some pros may even recommend this method compared to the work and risks of a full winterization every year.

However, keeping the hot tub running will require additional resources. You’ll use more power and more chemicals to keep it in good shape. Weigh the pros and cons of your situation before making a decision.

You should put chlorine in your hot tub on a regular basis. To keep bacteria away, keep the chlorine level in your hot tub at between 3-5 mg/l, which may mean you need to add chlorine daily or at least every two to three days. Don’t add chlorine to your hot tub water more than once per day.

A compact unit designed for two to three people typically weighs approximately 500 pounds in its empty state. On the other hand, a larger hot tub meant for up to six people can weigh around 1,000 pounds when empty. Materials used also impact weight. Less expensive hot tubs are typically lighter because they are made of molded plastic or fiberglass.

When your hot tub is completely dry, there is typically no need to introduce antifreeze into the plumbing. However, if you desire an extra layer of protection against potential freeze damage, you can consider adding some RV antifreeze to your hot tub lines. Just ensure that you use RV antifreeze specifically, as automotive antifreeze is highly toxic and should be avoided.

It’s easy to keep your hot tub clean and safe for all to enjoy by following a few simple tips:

  • Make sure anyone who uses the hot tub rinses themselves and their swimsuits off, perhaps in an outdoor shower near the hot tub.

  • Don’t add anything to your hot tub’s water. Bath oils and bubble bath liquids might seem like a fun addition to your hot tub experience, but these substances will turn the water in your tub foamy and its surfaces hard to clean.

  • Restrict eating in the tub to light snacks that you can easily clean out if there’s any spillage. Crumbs from crackers and chips can be difficult to pick up.

  • Make it a no-pet zone. Pet fur and dander can pose a cleaning issue, but it’s also not a great idea for your pet’s health and safety.
