I have never dealt with a company who's owner was more combative. Very frustrating to have to keep asking and asking and asking when the work will be be scheduled and completed. Very frustrating to be made to feel as if my projects were certainly not a priority.
In addition, once the work was done. In every case, there was always something that was not right. For example when the brand new filter and water lines were installed, by the owner personally, the Inlet and Outlet lines connecting the system to my very expensive gas pool heater, were installed absolutely wrong! They were backwards! When I started the pump they back pressured the system and caused the heater to fail. I called to ask to have it corrected and I was treated like it was no big deal, almost as if I should have just fixed it myself. I was astonished that someone who claims to have 30 years of experience could have made such an amateur mistake. To go further, when we paid $375.00 to have them close the pool for the season the pool lines were left unconnected and just lying on the ground and the ports for the heater were left open and exposed. In my opinion this is a completely unacceptable condition to leave a pool in when "winterizing". No other company that I have dealt with over the last 13 years of owning a pool considered this to be an appropriate thing to do when closing a pool. I again had to send a message to ask to have it corrected. After 4 days it finally was. To be honest, I have no idea if it was done correctly or not since the pool is closed and I can't run the pump to find out -- after the error in the spring when the lines were initially installed incorrectly BY THE OWNER PERSONALLY, I am skeptical that the same owner fixed it correctly.
Then we had the very expensive new pool cover finally installed (after 4 wks of trying to schedule). When the installers left, (the owner had left early to get to something else that was more important than my job), they forgot to leave the tool needed for the homeowner (me) to make adjustments and use to remove the pool cover in the spring . I had to ask to have that done. Make no mistake, this tool is a big deal. Without it I could not have made adjustments to adjust draining the pool and I could not have removed the cover in the spring. It is a big mistake to have forgotten to leave it. If I had not noticed that detail I am very confident that in the spring when I finally did need the tool and didn't have it - that the owner of this company would have been very combative and would NOT have given me one and would have likely claimed that I misplaced it. That is what I think would have happened, although lucky for me, I was paying attention to details, unlike him and his company. On the day When the pool cover was actually installed it was left with a huge puddle on the cover. A condition that the manufacture clearly states is not appropriate. I once again contacted them and was treated as if I was bothering them with my concerns, despite sending a picture of the puddle and a paragraph that I had copied directly from the manufacturers website regarding the potential problems with leaving a puddle on the cover, including likely voiding the manufacture's warranty. He told me that the cover would "stretch" - however I called the pool cover's manufacture technical services dept, and the employee that I spoke with on the phone disputes this fact that the material will "stretch" and informed me that this material is designed to NOT stretch -- His installers also walked on the cover several times, despite the manufactures clear warnings on their website to NOT walk on the cover. In the end I had to adjust the cover myself in order to relieve the puddling, because the cover had been installed too tightly (again, this was after speaking with the manufacturer Technical services dept for apprx an hour to determine the root cause of the problem).
After all of these issues. The owner had zero problem sending me a text to demand payment. When the pool was closed they decided to mail me the invoice. After two weeks he sent a text wanting to know where his money was? So, after all of the delays and headaches and problems with their lack of details and professionalism, he wanted his $375.00. Although I really didn't think that 14 days out on an invoice is beyond reasonable in accounts payable/receivable. If he had wanted his money sooner than he should have been prepared with an invoice at the time that the job was done and it would have been paid same day. He elected to bill me, and then demanded payment after 2 weeks. So, we paid. Because we are good people, and frankly just wanted to be done with this company. I just hope that in the spring when I open the pool that I don't find catastrophic errors and issues. I am not confident.
So in a nutshell. Do your homework. Check the BBB site for some comparable reviews to this one (I wish that I had) and see the other comments about this owner and his company. I am not alone. If you want to be treated poorly, have to chase someone for answers and then have to monitor all steps of the work for accuracy and details to make sure that it is done right, call this guy. I wouldn't do it again.
In response to the reply from vendor 11/16 -- we did not hire them again and again and again. Totally misleading. We hired them once. We had one contract with multiple jobs scheduled. We had concrete installed, and a filter installed and new pool lines installed, at the same time. We had the pool cover installed in the fall (but we had already contracted and paid in full for it in the spring). The only "added" job was the actual closing of the pool, and they were already here installing the cover so it was not a big deal to fit it in.
As for whether or not this review is "honest" -- is the vendor denying that 1) the inlet/outlet lines were installed backwards 2) that when closing the pool the lines were not reattached 3) that the pool cover tool was forgotten and that each time these things happened I had to initiate contact with the vendor to have them address and resolve the issue? I have emails and texts verifying these things happened exactly as I said that they happened. NONE of these issues had anything to do with family tragedy or bad weather or falling behind on schedule. Perhaps this vendor thinks that we should just be satisfied with these lapses in attention to details on the jobs that were performed? I wonder, does this vendor really believe that we received his best effort on our jobs? We don't. Does this vendor believe that we received their highest level of service? I wonder how they would grade themselves on their involvement in our projects and our level of satisfaction? straight A's ?
As for the vendor being concerned about their reputation. I would suggest that installing inlet/outlet lines backwards is not something to brag about. The consumer is free to make their own assessment of the situation. Angie's list is for the consumer. This is an accurate description based on my opinion of our experience with this vendor. Im sure that other customer's had better experiences than we had. But that does not change our reality. Details matter.
It is always sad to me when a vendor takes your money, and then gives less than the full effort and attention to every detail. My concern is what will I find in the spring when I have the pool opened? If there are any additional (currently unknown) lapses in details that we find will this vendor stand behind their work and be responsive and professional and attempt to offer the good service that they continually refer to or not?
"I always find it so interesting when a client hires a company again and again and again to do more and more work and then tries to write a negative review. If all of his review is honest then why request to have the company do more work after the first bad experience? Truth is the client was upset that we were unable to accommodate his 5th project into our schedule. Unfortunately due to back to back funerals in my family I fell behind in my schedule. I apologized but family comes first. The client paid each time because the work was completed and there was no reason to not pay. It is always sad to me that someone is so quick to write negative comments and try to damage the reputation of a company that has been in business for over 30 years with the same name. A company does not stay in business that long by giving bad service. Please contact me should you have any further concerns about his review. Thanks Bob"
1) Very poor communications that I had to initiate every time.
2) Soft spots in the pool that I made the counter boy know at Mr Pools retail store on York Rd.
3) Informed the counter boy know the same day that the tree lawn was damaged.
4) Disrespectful and threatening text message that I will certailt share with Angies List
"This review was not written by the client but by her son that was not a party to the original contract. I had no contact information for the son nor had no obligation to communicate with him about the project. With some pool repair projects damage to grass is unavoidable. Should you have any further questions about this review please contact me to discuss. Thanks Bob"
