"We called Mr. Rooter to look at our water heater which had some corroded connections and small leaks. Dan from Mr. Rooter was very professional. He clearly went over the options and pricing for replacing the valves vs a new hot water tank vs a tankless system. There was zero pressure from the technician, he simply went over the pros and cons of each option and let us decide, and then quickly went about installing the new system. I couldn’t be happier."

"Someone asked why we didn't use the company that installed our water softener...because their trip charge was $125 (to walk in the door) then $120/hour to repair. Peacock Water responded quickly to our Home Advisor request, they were polite, and did NOT charge an outrageous trip fee...actually NO trip fee. They repaired the problem and then returned in a week (at no fee) to test the water and make sure everything was working properly. Would definitely recommend."

"Excellent. We had other projects we wanted done, but they explained to us that installation of these fixtures (and a new outlet) would involved drywall being cut and they wanted us to know this before starting.  We decided this wasn't worth doing.
They arrived for the estimate a few minutes early, and arrived the day to work right on time. Matt did the installation, and he was professional, courteous, neat and clean. He was only there 1/2  a day.

"I communicated with the gentleman via email initially to let him know what I wanted to have done and if it could fit within the 2 hour period.  He let me know it should and asked for pictures of the water line connection in the basement to expedite the process of the purchase of the new water line, I provided him that information.  When he came he went right to work.  He is also a firefighter (had no impact on getting something scheduled).  The water line was replaced and corrected the problem.  He also talked about the hardness of my water that he tested and let me know about the option of a water softener.  While I was not ready to make the purchase at this time, he provided a very good education.  He finished within the two hours and was a very good experience.

"Very prompt and professional plumbers both on the phone and in person.  Originally we were scheduled for a Wednesday but they worked me in on Tuesday since I already had the day off, which I really appreciate.
My house was built in 1960 and didn't have water shutoff valves under two sinks.  I had them add those to the water lines for those sinks and replace a faucet.  However, one of the pipes broke (which happened on a different sink with a different company too) because of corrosion on the pipes so they had to create an access in the closet behind the sink and fix that pipe as well.
They even had a very nice little access cover for that which looks really good.  Most plumbers just knock a hole in your wall and leave it like that.
I bought a deal offered for $79 for $200 worth of labor, so my final bill was 301 since I already paid the $79 to Angie's list.  $501 for all the work that was done was a great price in my opinion and the quality and customer service was amazing.
I didn't really have a go to plumber for my needs before, but I do now.  I'll be using them again in the future.

Water Softeners questions, answered by experts

Yes. To get soft water, you can install a water softening system, which will replace the calcium and magnesium ions in the water with sodium or potassium ions. Water softeners cost anywhere from $200 to $6,000, depending on the size and complexity of the system. You can either install a water softener for the whole house or just at your shower heads. If you’re sensitive to sodium or potassium, you can install a salt-free water conditioner.

The primary difference between a water softener and a water filter lies in what they remove from the water. A water softener is designed to remove hard minerals like calcium and magnesium. In contrast, a water filter has a broader effect, removing various contaminants above a certain size, which can include bacteria and other impurities.

To decide which you need, consider your goal. If you want to eliminate hard minerals, choose a softener. If you want to remove a wide range of contaminants, a filter is the better option. Filters are also generally less expensive to install. Depending on your water supply, you may need to install both for comprehensive treatment.

Selecting the right system depends on testing your water to understand the contaminants present and considering your household's water usage and specific needs, such as removing specific contaminants.

Hard water doesn’t hurt, but it might feel more abrasive, especially if you have sensitive skin. It’s also about how your skin feels after bathing. You might feel as though you have a sticky film over your body because you do—it’s all that soapy residue left behind because the hard water can’t rinse it off completely.

Experts recommend that you put two to four bags of potassium chloride in your water softener every month. This amount depends on how much is in the bag (40 pounds is most common) and what your water softener manufacturer recommends. For more specific advice, talk to a water softener pro in your area and read the manual that came with your system.
