Customers say: Quick response

"As we have come to find out, getting someone to follow up on a work request is difficult. Companies don't return calls; make appointments and don't show; charge outrageous prices; do poor quality work. We contacted Mind Craft Masonry regarding a cinderblock retaining wall that needed repair. Ian Sr. returned our call promptly. He made an appointment to give a quote for the work and showed up on time. He was available quickly to do the job. He and his son showed up on time. The work was done beautifully. They cleaned up well and were friendly. What a great example of how a company should be run. Thank you!"

"We had a very long retaining wall installed. They removed the old rock wall. The work was done carefully and safely. The finished project is beautiful. I highly recommend Southern Grove Landscaping. I tried to include before and after pic."

"Masonry work entailed removing and then replacing the brick facade to front of ranch home. Also included new front brick steps and repair to front stoop/entrance. Meticulous workmanship. End of each day clean up was as if Craig owned the property. If time is not a problem [poor weather conditions, wait for delivery] , I highly recommend Riverstone Masonry, LLC! What was promised is what I got!"

"I found Brothers Masonry through Angi (Thanks Angi!). Tim, Matt and Crew were excellent. Started with free quote. They were a couple months out and we set a date to rebuild Masonry walls (from a building fire), Rework Door Thresholds (to add a traditional garage door), and remove an old chimney. Matt even called the night before scheduled work was to commence to reconfirm. The team finished the job in 3.5 days and even patched a hole in my floor next to a door that wasn't in scope. Came in slightly under quote which helps the budget (we did not wind up needed as much replacement block). Great job guys, Thank you!"

"I had a great experience working with Brandon from Foundation 1st. From the initial inspection to the final walkthrough, he was knowledgeable, professional, and easy to communicate with. He took the time to explain the foundation issues in a way that was clear and honest, without any pressure or upselling. Brandon and his crew showed up on time, worked efficiently, and left the job site clean. It’s clear he takes pride in his work and genuinely cares about helping homeowners protect their property. If you’re in Columbus and need foundation repairs, I highly recommend asking for Brandon at Foundation 1st. Solid work, fair pricing, and excellent service all around."

"Juan and his team did an excellent job on our landscaping. He was able to helped me figure out my restainig wall design (he provided me several options to choose from), removed all the old landscaping (bushes and plants), trimmed one of our trees, put in the new retaining wall and added a few low maintenance plants (which is what I requested) and added some volcanic rock (for low maintenance). We are extremely happy with the end result. It was worth every penny."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Columbus homes with stable foundations, minimal settling, and clear access for equipment are strong candidates for masonry work. Check for signs like cracked mortar, moisture stains, or efflorescence, which may indicate the need for masonry repair. Homes built in the early to mid-1900s often have durable brickwork, but always review local neighborhood guidelines, especially if you live in a historic area, before starting any project.

Helpful?

In Columbus, always start masonry work with proper safety gear, including hard hats, eye protection, gloves, and steel-toed boots. Ensure scaffolding is secure and regularly checked, especially given local wind conditions. For older homes, test for hazardous materials before starting. Use dust masks to limit silica exposure, and always confirm underground utilities are marked before digging. Monitor weather closely to avoid working during sudden temperature changes.

Helpful?

In Columbus, unexpected costs during masonry repair or brick restoration often stem from permit requirements, addressing unstable clay soil, or finding matching materials for older homes. Homes in historic districts may require specialized techniques, increasing complexity. Additional expenses can arise from unforeseen structural repairs, waterproofing needs, or limited site access, especially in densely built neighborhoods. Seasonal challenges like winter heating or debris removal may also impact your project.

Helpful?

In Columbus, most masonry work is scheduled from late spring through early fall, when temperatures support proper mortar curing and minimize weather-related delays. Summer offers the most reliable conditions, but contractors tend to book up quickly. Winter masonry projects are possible with special techniques, though they require extra precautions. Rain and humidity in summer and fall can affect timelines, so flexibility and early planning are important.

Helpful?

In Columbus, homeowners often overlook the importance of proper drainage, especially with the region’s clay soil, leading to water damage. Using incompatible mortar on historic brick or skipping freeze protection for new masonry are frequent errors. Many also neglect to secure necessary permits or rush the curing process, which can compromise durability. Starting projects late in the season or mismatching materials can result in costly masonry repairs.
