"Thank you for your review! You, [Member Name Removed] and [Member Name Removed] were an absolute pleasure to work with!"
"Thank you [Member Name Removed] and [Member Name Removed]! It was great working with you!"
Our back patio was in a distressed state and needed some long overdue attention. Being that we live in an older home, it was very important to us to work with a contractor that would appreciate the character of the home and yard and help us achieve the finished product we had envisioned.
I researched several contractors and based on all the positive feedback, I felt most comfortable in contacting GBR Masonry. When I made contact, I explained what I was interested in having done and we set a time for them to come out and take a look so they could provide me an estimate. We scheduled a day and time to meet and they were right on time.
I showed them the patio which had a host of issues. The knee high perimeter brick wall was starting to fail due to moisture getting in over the years and was taking on a slight bow in one area. The sandstone tiles on the ground had separated and several had broken areas that needed replaced. Our idea was to have the wall resurfaced with stone that matched what was installed on the house over 10 years ago with a limestone cap on top. We also wanted to have the sandstone leveled and the cracks filled in with mortar to help even it out and get rid of the dirt in the cracks. Danielle and Andy looked very close at all aspects and took a lot of notes and measurements. They also explained in detail how they would go about repairing and resurfacing the wall. With regard to putting mortar in sandstone tile joints, they explained the reason why that was not a good idea (which I had not even thought of) and presented a great alternative. They suggested that when they reinstall the sandstone tiles (which some are of significant size) after the sub surface had been leveled out and tamped, that they would butt them up to each other, eliminating the wide existing gaps. Then, they would create a couple of inches wide gravel area between the wall and stone on one side of the patio that rain water would flow into to eliminate standing water. They even included drilling and lining some weep channels in the wall for the water to escape.
We were given a very detailed estimate that listed everything out with exact specifics. I really appreciated the in depth description as it left no detail out. We agreed on the scope of the project and set a time for it to commence. When the day arrived, so did they, and they got right into it. Given that they had to order a variety of materials and were dependent on the stone yard to fabricate the materials, there were several weeks from agreeing to the project and it actually starting. I mention this as I had several questions during this time and Danielle got right back to me each time very quickly. We even added a few things that were then incorporated in the final estimate.
When work began the project moved very smoothly and followed what they had laid out. They even numbered the sandstone slabs and made a map to ensure they went back in the same place with the exception of the ones that had to be replaced. In watching them work, it was clearly evident they were more interested in delivering a quality product rather than getting in and getting out to the next job. They cleaned up the site each day before leaving and kept me informed me of the days progress and what was next.
With the job now completed, we could not be more thrilled with the end result. They did an outstanding job of matching the stone and mortar on the house to the new portion. In fact, one cannot tell the difference giving it the look of always having had been there.
In Summation, it occurred to me about half way through the project that this is much more than a job for them, but rather a passion. It shows in their level of detail, dedication, and competence. I think I am pretty picky, but they take it a step further. It is like they were doing it for themselves and only would accept the very best. Great experience!
We were also considering having our back patio concrete pad covered with stone or stamped concrete to make it look pretty, eventually decided not to do that but once we looked at the beautiful samples of stone which Danielle brought out, we just had to use it and so we went ahead and had the front porch concrete pad covered in natural stone. They did a great job and it looks very good, we receive a lot of compliments for it.
Danielle and Andy and their crew were very easy to work with and professional at all times. We would use them again.
"Thank you for your review. I have to question the B in quality if you're pleased with the installation receiving so many compliments?? Thank you for your business!"
"Thank you for your thorough review!! We do appreciate the time spent to fill out these forms and upload pictures. We are thrilled with the transformation the front of your home underwent! Thank you for your business!"
The brick walkway was in poor condition with much of the brick uneven and separating . And the entire walkway actually had not been laid out perpendicular and square in the first place . And so, to the eye, each of the five landings & steps just did not line up. And this also caused the original installer to have to cut many small "filler" pieces of brick to make up the difference on each landing. All in all not an attractive or safe walkway.
When I first had a site visit with GBR Masonry, I knew I had the company I wanted. Unlike other contractors whom suggested that their best fix was to simply reset the bricks (dry laid) , GBR really analyzed the situation, told precisely how they would correct the misalignment problem by cutting and re-working the steps, then mortaring the perimeter bricks and then finally dry laying the interior portion of the walkway .The other really positive thing is that the owners, Danielle & Andy both do the site assessment and roll up their sleeves and join in on the work too..
So what was the final product like ? ....Amazing ! A great big 10 on the rating scale. These folks are skilled, meticulous and take pride in their work. I didn't think such firms / people still existed . They truly do the work as if were for their own home.
And finally, just watching them work gave me both an appreciation of just how good they are and the realization that the project was far more difficult than I had imagined. All I can say is if you want the project done right, these are the people for you.

GBR came out to begin the project and were punctional. The team begin the project and got into the dismantling of the chimney, they unfortunately encountered a problem...we had bats in the chimney sturcture. (It should be noted that we had found 3 bats (one confirmed rabid) in the house in the past year and 1/2, had the exterminator out twice to try and locate where they were coming in from, but no success...now we knew.) Instead, of saying 'you deal with it, and we'll be back and continue then'...GBR took the bats head on. They went out of the way to assist us in the safe removal of the bats, addressed the problem both outside in the chimney and inside within the house (sealed up any possible openings within the house the length of the chimney). They went above and beyond what they had to or what was expected...just couldn't believe how much they did to help us eradicate the problem.
Once the bats were safely removed, they carried on with the project as planned, and completed everything within a week. The chimney looks fantastic. We had concerns that the new stone would be clearly different in color from the old (which was built in the 1950s), but they matched the kind of stone and color so well. There's almost no difference between the old and new. We now have a safe, bat-free chimney, fantastic looking chimney thanks to GBR Masonry.
I would highly, highly recommend them with no hesitation. Stellar work from GBR Masonry.
