"Beware of Merkle Landscaping The short version- work that was pointed out during the walk through with both the company representative and the men who performed the job was not completed. When asked, the company refused to negotiate a settlement. Update- 45 days later, all but two of the small trees and shrubs in the area are growing back. The full story- When I walked the job with the Merkle Landscaping representative I specifically pointed out three honeysuckle shrubs to be removed that were the reason why I hired them. I said that my adult sons and I had broken two shovels trying to dig out the bushes and that was the reason I needed to hire outside help. When the contract was written it did not stipulate specifically the removal those three shrubs, but it also did not say that the workers would only use hand tools. It said what the “crew daily rate” was. Neither party stipulated that the crew would be two men with hand tools or two men with a stump grinder. When I walked the job with the crew, I again pointed out that the bushes were the most important part of the job. They worked very hard and did a good job but left the three stumps from the shrubs after cutting off the branches. They have already sprouted and will be the same size next year. The problem was that the workers did not speak enough English to understand that this was the beginning point of the job. Our communication was limited, so the stump removal was missed again. When I called the Merkle representative I offered to pay more for them to get rid of the stumps but I asked for a concession to pay half the hourly rate for the extra work. My offer was turned down by the Merkle representative because in the contract it says that they are not liable for anything that is unseen or not marked. The pine stump from the tree I had removed years ago was clearly visible and located within 5 feet of these three shrubs. I mentioned that the large pine stump could stay because it was dead. Pine trees with more than a foot diameter at the base have root systems larger than 5 feet, so the shrubs were likely to be tangled in the roots of the former tree. Also, I mentioned breaking two shovels trying to get the shrubs out. When you agree to a contract with Merkle Landscape make sure that you stipulate specifically what you want done. The workers did the job as described to them by their boss, but my desires for this job were lost in translation and the job that I requested was not the job completed. Before you commit to any work with this company understand fully that if the job you want is not done, the owner will not make it right. Update: 45 days later all but two small trees are growing back."

We have 10 employees during the peak season.
"We hired Poffs to do quarterly lawn treatments and they completely ruined our yard. According to them they used expired chemicals that killed our grass and caused striping where the guy missed spots. We have now had to get our yard aerated and have spent a lot on grass seed to try to start growing our grass back again. This has been extremely embarrassing as this company was supposed to help keep our yard beautiful and now it is the eye sore of the neighborhood."

Different pest control methods exist to help mitigate an infestation. Not every technique will work with every pest, which is why speaking with a pest control expert is crucial to taming your problem. Different methods of pest removal include:
Heat treatments
Freezing treatments
Traps
Barriers
Chemical pesticides
Fumigation
Rodenticides
Mechanical devices
Repellants
The cost of pest control is $175 for the average homeowner. However, you could spend as little as $100 or as much as $500 or more, depending on the infestation size, the number of visits you need, and the pest you’re exterminating.
For example, if you need to rid your home of spiders, you’ll likely be spending between $100 and $300. However, if you have a termite problem, you can expect a bill of $230 to $2,500 or more, depending on the infestation size and damage caused.
There are specific methods for pest removal that you can DIY without hiring an expert. If you are preventing pests from making an appearance or clearing out a small infestation of harmless insects, you will likely have success on your own. However, if you’re dealing with pests that eat wood, bedbugs, or other pests that carry a disease risk, like rodents, it’s always worth it to call a pest professional to help you.
Even if you’re not immediately showing signs of pests, it’s a good idea to get into the habit of routine pest control. This should be done yearly, quarterly, bi-monthly, or monthly, depending on your location and if any signs of infestation are already present. For example, if you live by water, you might experience more pests in the spring and summer than someone who lives in a dry climate. Discuss treatment options with your pest professional to determine a suitable schedule for you and your home.
While not every infestation is preventable, there are some actions you can take to minimize the risk of running into these pests in your home. These actions include:
Keeping your home tidy. This includes vacuuming regularly, sanitizing your kitchen, storing food in airtight containers, disposing garbage regularly, and keeping your home clutter-free.
Deep clean at least twice a year. Deep cleaning neglected crevices and corners of your home can help prevent breeding grounds from forming.
Repairing your home when needed. If your home has cracks or holes, you have an open invitation for pests to come in. Remove any standing water and seal any gaps in your floors, walls, and foundation.
Cleaning up your yard. Keep shrubbery and branches well-trimmed and away from your home. Remove fallen leaves and other debris.
Be smart with storage. If you use firewood, store it away from the home (at least 20 feet away if possible) and off of the ground.
