"Robert arrived right on time to complete the job. He was very professional and provided a lot of great information for a first-time wood burning fireplace owner. Very courteous, considerate and clean. The inspection and cleaning took about an hour. I plan on using QPS each time I need any work done on my chimney."

"Had to get the chimney cleaned from years of the top cap being blown off and broken. Don't think anything was cleaned since the house was built but I don't use the fireplace. Anyways, Myke is very polite and fair with pricing and service. His wife is the receptionist and is exceptionally nice to work with and flexible for appointments. Myke ended up cleaning out a bunch of dead animals which fell in when the cap was off and also cleaned out a bunch of other junk from the environment. He laid down a huge quilt before even opening the fireplace and made sure he had cleaning stuff and a bucket handy at all times to catch debris and critters. Very good cleanup job where you wouldn't even know someone was over. Overall my fireplace was not in bad shape, but Myke did make some recommendations for external repairs for the condo association repair people which helped to greatly reduce the rain drippings I would normally hear in the fireplace. Fantastic business and genuinely helps with getting best value for dollar."

"Shawhan Chimney Company cleaned and inspected our wood burning fireplace. Kalym did an extremely thorough cleaning of the fireplace while protecting carpet and furnishings from ash. His service included a rooftop inspection of our fireplace chimney. After inspecting both chimneys (fireplace and furnace) and taking many photos, he showed us some deterioration but noted it was not an emergency to repair. However, we decided we wanted we wanted him to repair and replace some deteriorating bricks. It’s great that our chimney sweep is also a mason! Kalyn’s work is impeccable and the photos below show it!"

"We chose Nick from Shortfix to repair our dishwasher, which had a blocked drain. This happened on a Saturday and, not surprising, many firms are closed for the weekend. Nick was available, so we scheduled an appointment and he arrived at the appointed time. He went right to work and promptly completed the necessary work. Nick was very courteous snd professional. I will not hesitate to call him if we have a problem with another one of our appliances."

"The workers and office staff were easy to talk to, well informed, courteous , and efficient. They performed a thorough inspection. Recommended and installed a stainless liner and cap for the furnace flue and a new damper on the fireplace flue. Their price was better than previous quotes and even set up a partial payment plan. I am very pleased with the work they did."

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

Watch out for fireplace service quotes that lack proof of state certification or proper licensing. A contractor pressuring you to skip structural permits is a major warning sign. Be cautious of professionals who only offer visual inspections for older Akron homes without using a camera to check the flue liner. Finally, reject any proposal that ignores exterior water intrusion assessments or lacks verifiable local references.

Helpful?

A major mistake during fireplace service is delaying repairs until spring. Winter weather rapidly worsens minor cracks into structural failures. Homeowners also err by applying waterproofing sealants over damaged mortar, which traps moisture inside the masonry. Additionally, skipping required permits or ignoring annual inspections for gas fireplaces creates serious safety hazards. Always burn seasoned wood to prevent rapid creosote buildup in your Akron home.

Helpful?

Schedule your primary fireplace service inspection in late summer before the OH heating season begins. After the first hard freeze, inspect your exterior masonry and crown for new cracks. In late winter, check your chimney cap and flashing for ice damage or white mineral staining. Finally, book a professional sweep in the spring to remove acidic creosote buildup before summer humidity sets in.

Helpful?

Schedule gas log service in late summer or early fall before the Akron heating season begins. Over the spring and summer, unused logs accumulate dust, spider webs, and moisture. High humidity in OH also damages burner components during the off-season. A local professional will inspect your system to ensure everything functions safely. Always contact your local utility provider immediately if you smell gas or notice unusual pilot light outages.

Helpful?

Your home is an excellent candidate for gas log service if you already have a structurally sound masonry fireplace and accessible natural gas lines. A local professional must inspect your chimney liner to confirm it safely supports vented appliances. If you prefer a vent-free system, OH building codes restrict installations in smaller rooms, bedrooms, and bathrooms. Extending an existing gas line from a nearby furnace simplifies the installation process.
