Excellent Exterior and Deck Company, Inc.

Working with Joe was incredible, he might be a big guy, with a little machine, but he gets the job done, and he does it right! Joe and his crew helped get our kit ready for our dream home. He dug and graded for our foundation, dealt with water issues throughout the lot, and installed our entire septic system. He was easy to work with, thoughtful, and had good ideas. His crew especially Ben and Ian were friendly, smart, and very hard workers. By far they were the most painless contractor I’ve worked with, 10/10 would recommend

They came out the SAME DAY we called. Dave was very accommodating and fair. The helped identify the issue and gave us a fair assessment of how we should proceed. They were great at identifying an otherwise camouflaged septic system. They were fast, friendly and professional. I used their Angie's list coupon. Look for it

Excellent service. We called at 9pm for a clog or pump out. He came first thing in the morning and was so quick and professional. He used the snake to remove a clog. Quality service! I can not praise them enough.

Battaglia Excavation

Recently, we began having problems with our 50 year old drywell that is only used to receive laundry water and HVAC condensate discharge. The problem was that water was siphoning back into the basement deep sink. Originally I thought this to be a faulty check valve. I decided that what ever this problem was; we had to dig out the tank and expose the two drywell half covers or lids. When uncovered we found the tank full to overflowing past the covers. There were no access ports in either cover. To allow the tank to be pumped; an access hole had to be cut in one of the reinforced concrete covers. What had happened to the drywell was that after fifty years of use, the phosphate detergent had caused the drainage pores of the sandy soil to become blocked, forming a seal, not allowing for proper drainage. With the drywell pumped, I contacted a plumber to repair some inside valve issues. I also contacted Brian, owner of Battaglia Excavation. He explained to me just what I explained above; why the drywell had failed. He told me his fix would be to: * Install a new 1000 gallon drywell down stream of the old drywell. * Use the 50 year old drywell as a settling pond to separate the particulates in the laundry water. * Remove one of the old dry well lids (newly designated settling pond lid) and install a baffle with piping to the new drywell, then replace that lid. The baffle intake pipe would take a suction from the clean water region of the settling pond and gravity drain this fluid to the new drywell. * Finally, he would install a pump out riser with cover on the settling pond lid above the cutout access hole for future sludge removal. i decided that using Brian’s method would eliminate messy repairs to the old drywell and even use this tank as part of the new system. The new drywell could be installed in an area that has great sandy soil drainage. I explained that access to the yard was completely fenced in. Brian explained he has a small excavator and small dump truck that he uses. His written proposal included removing and replacing a section of fence. I had some home owner preps which included: * Removing some exposed in-ground sprinklers. * Cutting back a couple of tree branches to allow dump truck access. * Cutting back some side privet hedges to ground level again for dump truck access. Brian gave me a written estimate of $3700.00 that included everything; equipment usage, parts and labor. He started the job within the time frame I gave him and had everything completed including a final landscaping within two days; at his estimated cost of $3700.00. I am very happy with the job he and his coworker did and would highly recommend Battaglia Excavation for any drywell / septic related work. I am submitting photos of the project, all photos have a 2017 date, the camera was never reset. These photos were taken on 9/13/2019 & 9/14/2019. This was not septic tank work, this was actually drywell work, Angies List does not have a drywell category

Excellent. They got to my house less than an hour after I called. They pumped out the septic tank, found and cleared out the blockage. They worked quickly as I had to run get my kids from daycare and when I got back about 30 mins later they were already done. They charged me what I thought was a very reasonable price and I was very happy with their service. I have always used Big Willy's Septic in the 10 years I have been a homeowner. They have consistently provided prompt, professional services at affordable prices. I highly recommend Big Willy's Septic Services

Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Water Cleanup

I called Roto-Rooter and they came out within an hour. They would have been there sooner but I had to drop my kids off at daycare. The serviceman Rob was professional and courteous. He even put on the slip on floor protectors before he came in the house. It is amazing how small details can mean a lot because I have had service people come into the house and get dirt everywhere. He examined the situation and after asking me questions about my septic suggested getting the septic tank pumped out first. He explained how if the tank was full snaking would be useless. Also pulling off the drain cap could make a big mess in my basement. So he gave me a solution that involved getting the tank pumped out, which I had to do anyway, then calling him if the problems persisted. I appreciated his honesty and he did not charge me for his time. I called Big Willy's Septic and they fixed the problem quickly. Roto-Rooter followed up with me to see if the problem was resolved. Even though they did not perform a paid service Rob's honest, professional opinion was just as valuable because it saved me money and now I feel I have a plumbing service I trust in the Roto-Rooter of Schenectady

Job was not as simple as I expected . Scum layer was very thick because maintenance had not been done for a long time. Also, the tank has two chimneys, one with the cover at surface level. I had told the office on the set-up call that no digging would be necessary. However, the serviceman found that at the easy-access chimney, very hard scum prevented the pumping of the liquid there. I had started digging down to the second chimney with the cover below surface level, but did not finish before. The serviceman finished digging down to the cover w/o charging extra. He finished the job very efficiently. Also used a discount that lowered the price below $200. And he came in a super clean red truck

The technician arrived at the early end of the timeframe I was given. It was a short window, 2 hrs, which I appreciated, can schedule my day better. The gentleman was outgoing and friendly, worked quickly, explained what he was doing. I gave N/A for the price as I don't have a basis for comparison. The company performed this service last did so 3 years ago, so I can't compare to that price. I gave up on them after contacting the owner 3 times

"To begin, I couldn’t be happier with the way my new deck came out. My wife and I had to install a new 30’x15’ above-ground pool after the old one and old, wooden deck around it fell apart after 20+ years. With the new pool, we obviously needed a new deck and decided to bite the bullet with the $$ and go with a Trex deck for a myriad of reasons. Ian (project manager) stopped by sometime in February to take a look at the site in my backyard and understand our vision. He absolutely crushed it with what we had in mind including the color scheme and overall feel and size to it. Once the project got started in June, Ian and his crew (of great, respectful & hard-working dudes) laid out the basic foundation quickly so I was able to approve the overall dimensions and placement in no time. From there, we just sat back and watched as the crew did precise and detailed work daily. It was about 2 weeks until it was all said and done. Our friends & family that have stopped by since continue to rave about the deck and asked who we hired. Also, Joe the owner came around a handful of times and he is another super nice, down to earth and respectful guy. Great decision all around going with this company.

"we had a problem in our downstairs bathroom. Rooter Man Plumbing & Drain was able to respond on the same day, within about two hours from my "Quote Request." Rooter Man cleared my clog and cleaned out the main pipes in less than an hour. A special commendation to Dave for his service and his expertise. He was also able to suggest some other options for a separate project I was considering. Also, Tammy was the most knowledgeable and professional "voice on the phone" I have heard in decades. She was clear and concise in her pitch and scheduling of a service. I haven't had that kind of service since I retired from the military twenty-five years ago.

"The technician showed up within the scheduled time frame and was courteous and professional.
The main sewer line was cabled directly from the basement access by the technician who spent approximately one hour working.
I understood this specific service would be $299 plus tax.
The bill was presented for $384.00 for the labor, plus an additional fee of $18.95, listed as other, apparently for "travel time".
The total paid with tax was $435.19. I subsequently learned that the average total price charged by several area plumbers for this service is indeed $299 plus tax. I was not informed of the higher amount prior to the work and there was never any mention of an extra charge for travel time.
My main issue is the failure of a business to be completely clear, upfront and honest about what they will be charging, particularity when the job is clear cut with no unforeseen problems. If nothing else, adding the $18.95 with absolutely no mention until the bill is presented is deceptive, taking advantage of the customer.

Replacing a drain field requires digging up quite a bit of land and involves a decent amount of testing. Using this guide, you’ll learn how much it costs to replace a drain field based on a few key factors such as size and type of septic system.
If you’re wondering whether it’s safe to grow plants over your septic tank, the answer is yes, as long as you stick with plants that have shallow root systems to avoid damaging the septic system. Learn the best plants to install over a septic tank.
Answer: There are several signs that indicate your septic tank could be full. These include standing water over your septic tank, a strong odor coming from your yard, gurgling water, slow drains, or a sewage backup. While many of these signs could also be indicative of a clogged system, they should all be checked out by a professional ASAP to avoid costly damages. In the absence of any of these signs, it’s recommended that septic tanks be emptied every 3 to 5 years on average.
How often should a septic tank be serviced?
Answer: On average, septic tanks should be serviced every 3 to 5 years in the absence of any worrying signs that the tank is clogged or full. The size of your septic tank, the number of people living in your home, and your average water usage will all impact how often your septic tank needs to be serviced.
What are the most common causes of septic tank failure?
Answer: The most common cause of septic tank failure is improper maintenance. Failing to pump a septic tank on the appropriate schedule will cause septic tank failure and likely result in a costly septic tank repair or replacement. On average, septic tanks should be pumped every 3 to 5 years, but the size of your tank, the number of people in your home, and your average water usage may shorten or extend this timeframe.
How much does it cost to pump a septic tank?
Answer: The cost to pump a septic tank is $400 on average or about $0.30 per gallon. The size of your septic tank, as well as local labor costs, will impact the cost of pumping your septic tank. Most septic tanks are between 600 and 2,000 gallons in size, meaning the average cost range is between $180 to $600.
How much does it cost to install a septic system?
Answer: The cost to install a septic tank system is between $3,060 and $9,810, on average. The size of the septic tank you choose, the land you’re installing it on, the type of system you choose, and local labor costs will all influence the total cost of installing a septic system. Anaerobic septic tanks (those that don’t need oxygen) typically cost between $3,000 and $8,000. Aerobic systems, which utilize oxygen to activate bacteria and are popular on smaller properties, usually cost between $10,000 and $20,000.
How long does a septic system last?
Answer: When septic systems are well maintained, they can last up to 30 years or more. If a septic system isn’t properly maintained, such as when it isn’t pumped regularly, it may malfunction and require costly repairs or a premature replacement. In general, septic tank pumping is recommended every 3 to 5 years to ensure the septic system lasts as long as possible.
