"I highly recommend G & G Landscape Design! They removed several very tall pine trees, cleared out overgrown bushes, and installed a beautiful wooden fence on my property. From start to finish, their communication was excellent—they kept me informed throughout the entire process and were always quick to answer questions. The crew was professional, courteous, and clearly took pride in their work. The tree and brush removal was completed efficiently, and the fence installation exceeded my expectations. The quality of workmanship is outstanding, and the finished project has completely transformed my yard. If you’re looking for a company with exceptional customer service, great communication, and high-quality work, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them. I’m extremely happy with the results!"

"From the first estimate to the final cleanup, the whole experience was great! They were professional and showed up when they said they would. They completely transformed our yard with new landscaping, mulch beds, and trimming, and everything looks clean and polished. Fair pricing for the amount of work. We’ve already had neighbors asking who did our landscaping. Highly recommend!"

"Very well. Mike and crew were prompt, diligent, and hard working. Mike communicated well before and during the job. We had a young tree planted and some clearing and planting of several bushes as a backyard border. Clean up and overall appearance are great. Can't wait till spring!"

"I highly recommend LDS! They responded promptly to my septic emergency, making time in their schedule between other visits to come by to assess the issue. They let me know exactly what was going on. They even showed me a camera view of what the pipes looked like and where they were failing. David provided several options to update my system which I plan to do with LDS in the future. He also explained what was needed to fix the current problem. They were onsite and completed the needed repair quickly. Other companies would only provide estimates to replace the entire system but LDS fixed the immediate issue to make it all work! Fair pricing, honest communication and prompt service."

"Lawrence was an excellent contractor, he contacted and coordinated with the gas company and with Galloway co-op. He checked in regularly with me and even tried to get a temporary tank when it was discovered that my propane levels would not last until the delivery date. He wasted no time and came early to start excavation a day before delivery and that a great job burying and leveling the Earth after the tank was installed. Very professional, would recommend."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Sewer lines can be buried anywhere from 18 inches to 8 feet deep, with a common average depth between 18 and 30 inches. The exact depth depends on local factors like climate and soil type. In colder regions, pipes must be buried deeper (below the frost line) to prevent freezing, sometimes as deep as 8 feet. The digging depth can also impact the cost of sewer line replacement. To find the specific depth for your property, you can check the building plans for your system, which should be on file with your city or local sanitation department since permits are required for installation.

Most residential basements are 8 to 10 feet deep. You can dig deeper depending on building codes, but it does become more difficult. You’ll likely need to install stronger foundation walls and additional supports to handle the increased load. Depending on the water table, you may also need a water management system. Clay soil can support a deeper foundation than sandy soil. A structural engineer will be able to tell you the maximum, feasible depth.

It takes one hour to dig a 10-foot trench by hand. Use a trenching shovel with a sharp tip and a long head. Plan for more time if your soil is heavy or rocky. Consider renting a trencher if you’re digging a long or deep trench or if you have challenging soil or terrain.

There are several methods to hollow out a tree stump, and the best one depends on your tools, experience, and priorities. Common methods include using a chisel and hammer, a chainsaw, or burning.

  • Chisel and Hammer: This is often considered the easiest approach for those with limited tools or experience, though it is the most time-consuming.

  • Chainsaw: Using a chainsaw is the fastest method, but it comes with significant safety risks, especially for inexperienced users.

  • Burning: This can be an effective method, but it is not recommended unless you can first drill holes into the stump. Without holes, the stump will be difficult to light and may not burn completely through.

A power drill with at least a ⅜-inch diameter bit can make the job quicker and easier, regardless of the primary method. While you can use a chisel or chainsaw without a drill, it will require more time and effort. Always wear protective goggles and thick gloves, as splinters are an inevitable risk.

A crawl space can be as little as 42 inches below the grade of your house, but this is not always recommended in flood-prone areas. At a minimum, there must be at least 16 inches of clearance between the ground and the floor joists to access the space in an emergency.
