"They were very professional and through. They had to install the gas fireplace in a 1940 fireplace with many uneven stones. They took the time to make sure it fit correctly and looked right. I highly recommend them for fireplace upgrades."

"After having a chimney fire the staff at Four Winds came and cleaned and inspected our fireplace. They are full of knowledge and gave me options as far as what to do. This 4th generation company is up to date on codes and customer service. They explained everything that was wrong and how to fix it even if they couldn t fix it . "Tried to engage several other companies to complete my project. Very glad none of the others worked out. Shamrock always arrived when they said they would, performed their service with excellence without drama. Very responsive. Others were providing estimates of weeks of lead time. Shamrock completed their work in less than two. If you have work coming up, would strongly advise resisting the urge to waste time by talking to anyone else than Shamrock. They are a pre-eminent company among their peers."

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

When your wood stove catalyst goes bad, it can cause your stove to produce less heat or run slower than normal. You might also notice thick black smoke coming out of your chimney. If you notice any of these signs, contact a professional who installs wood-burning stoves and repairs them for an inspection and fix.

To reset an electric fireplace, first shut the unit off using the control panel or remote control. Make sure the unit is entirely shut down, then unplug it from the power outlet. Wait five to 10 minutes, then plug the fireplace back in and turn it on. This process should reset the electric fireplace. After resetting, make sure to set the thermostat, timer, and other programmable settings to suit your preferences.

In addition to flashing, a roof cricket can help divert water around your chimney so that it drains properly off your roof. It’s shaped like a double triangle and is installed behind the chimney so that falling water spills evenly down each side. This helps prevent water from accumulating behind your chimney, which can increase water damage and the risk of leaks.

The International Building Code (IBC) requires cricket installation if a chimney built after 2012 measures over 30 inches in width. Chimneys constructed before that date are typically grandfathered in and aren’t required to have crickets installed.

When it comes to noise levels, outdoor wood furnaces typically fall within a manageable range that's comparable to other standard heating systems. The noise generated by an outdoor wood furnace is primarily attributed to the operation of the fan and blower components responsible for circulating heated air throughout your home.

These fans and blowers are designed to minimize sound while effectively distributing warmth. While you might notice a subtle hum or airflow noise when they're in operation, it's generally not intrusive or disruptive to your daily activities.

Yes, in most cases, you can remove a fireplace while keeping the chimney. This process requires sealing the chimney at the bottom where it connected to the fireplace and capping it at the top. It is essential to consult a chimney professional or inspection specialist beforehand. They will need to determine if the chimney's structural integrity is sufficient to remain safely in place without the support of the fireplace.
