"They were very professional and through. They had to install the gas fireplace in a 1940 fireplace with many uneven stones. They took the time to make sure it fit correctly and looked right. I highly recommend them for fireplace upgrades."

"After having a chimney fire the staff at Four Winds came and cleaned and inspected our fireplace. They are full of knowledge and gave me options as far as what to do. "Tried to engage several other companies to complete my project. Very glad none of the others worked out. A chimney liner isn’t required for an outdoor fireplace; you don’t technically need one if the masonry chimney uses the proper dimensions and is built to code. However, a chimney liner does serve as a protective coating for the flue. Adding a liner could improve performance, safety, and durability. In short, while not necessary, it wouldn’t hurt.

The short answer is yes, but the longer answer is more complex. Unless the fireplace is ventless by design, you’ll need some type of exhaust pipe system to safely send fumes and other harmful byproducts out of the house. Even then, ventless fireplaces are not always permitted because they do keep the byproducts inside of your house. Ventless fireplaces are safest when installed in spaces that are themselves well-ventilated, like large rooms with lots of windows.

You can burn wood with oak wilt, as heat from the fire destroys the fungus, and smoke won’t threaten healthy trees. However, wood of unknown origin should be burned during the dormant season—do not store wood in the warmer months for the winter season. If you harvest oak, let it dry in the sun before transporting it elsewhere.
