"Dunrite came promptly and repaired leaks in our roof around the chimney.  They also discovered major flaws in that section of the roof which was over the garage.   They did a major roofing job as well as repairing masonry and flashing work on the chimney as well as adding new plywood in the garage. Their attention to detail was evident when they went in search of new roofing shingles to match the existing shingles throughout the entire roof.  Staff was professional and efficient and did a great job in removing the debris.    We have used Dunrite over the years to clean our chimney as well as  installing a new glass fireplace which they did last year.   They continue to provide excellent service.

"Oscar and his crew not only repaired a crack in the fireplace but he found that previous workers from another company didn t connect the attic furnace to the chimney. The short answer is yes, as hearths need to extend a certain distance out from the fire. This is usually around at least a foot in front but is often more, closer to two feet even. There is another distance to consider, which is the distance beyond the opening of the fireplace. Each municipality will have different code requirements.

Start by sealing gaps with weatherstripping or caulking around the frame to block drafts. For an extra barrier, apply window insulation film to the glass, trapping an air pocket between the film and the window. Thick curtains or thermal drapes can also help keep the chill at bay. And if you’re in a pinch and looking to get creative, bubble wrap can provide a surprisingly effective layer of insulation—just spritz the window with water and press it on, bubble side in.

Ideally, your chimney cap should be at least 8 inches above the top of the flue, though it's better if it's even higher. You want it to sit that high because it won't affect the chimney's draft, which pulls the smoke up and out of your chimney and away from your home.

In general, it will take about 90 minutes to burn the creosote sweeping log by itself, allowing it to work its magic. This may be longer or shorter depending on the conditions of your chimney.

A chimney without a liner is not recommended. Chimney liners protect the surrounding structure from heat, reducing the risk of fire or structural damage. Just as important, liners prevent carbon monoxide and other toxic gases from leaking into your abode by guiding smoke and gases out more effectively. Remember, installing a liner ensures safety and extends the life of your chimney.
