ABOUT CHIEF CHIMNEY SERVICES,INC. Chief Chimney Services works hard and prides itself on doing outstanding chimney sweeping, relining and rebuilding/restoration work. We offer professional know-how and training unmatched by anyone else on Long Island. Our sweeps are all Certified by the Chimney Safety Institute of America and are experts in chimney sweeping, chimney venting, chimney construction and repair, vent design, and chimney restoration. Since 1983 the owners John and Diane, have been associated with Lakeland Chimney Sweeps and Oil Burner Service and Chief Chimney Service (Lic# 13785 HI). I contacted Chief Chimney Services a couple of months ago. I had my chimney cleaned and dryer vent cleaned as well. I did like how professional they were (from when I first called, to confirming the appointment and also while at my home.) They seemed like a nice personable couple. At the end of the service when I was getting ready to pay, he said there was a problem with my chimney and showed me pictures of work that needed to be done. He said I needed a sleeve for my oIl burner chimney. He showed me the pictures he took and said he would email me an estimate. He said I “might” be able to make it thru the season but that the work should be done soon. I settled the bill and a few days later received the estimate for over $2000. I wanted to get another estimate, but time got away from me. About 5 weeks later I lost heat and found out that I needed a new oil burner. (Verified by 2 companies and a friend of the family.) I priced out a new burner (3 quotes) and 2 I ended up having to my house. I figured I would repair the chimney at the same time. BOTH companies that came to my house looked at the chimney and said there was NO DAMAGE. One took video (while I was watching) showing me the chimney and it looked fine. It didn’t look anything like the pictures Chief Chimney showed me. Both companies told me this is a SCAM that a lot of chImney companies do. Where they show you pictures of someone else’s chimney and since you aren‘t going to the roof to check you don’t even know. I contacted Chief Chimney and just asked for copies of the pictures. I was told that he was out of town and they were on his phone. She told me he would call me back in 2 days. I never got a return call. I felt so stupid. I am glad I didn’t fall for the SCAM but wanted to share my experience.

They are amazing and did a great job. They were very professional, honest, and did a thorough job on my fireplace. They took time to make sure all areas and corners inside the the fireplace was cleaned and vacuumed. They were very meticulous in keeping the work area clean and ashes contained. They are very knowledgeful and helped me figure out why i was having issues of smoke backflowing. If I have any more questions about the fireplace, I know they would be the people i would call. I am extremely happy with their service and am so happy to have found this company. Not to mention, they are so friendly, nice people.

I have used Chief Chimney for several years now, and they do not disappoint! They are professional, knowledgeable and pleasant. They do a thorough job and only do work that is needed. Today for example, they cleaned my fireplace chimney and when they checked the oil burner chimney they said it was fine. That is refreshing in today's day and age!

We called Chief Chimney Services because of all the outstanding positive reviews I read on Angie’s List. We waited 6-8 weeks for their first available appointment. At the time I scheduled the appointment, Dianne explained to me that it would be a $95 charge for the initial estimate, but that the amount would be applied to the subsequent work performed after the assessment. I thought this was a little odd since most companies provide free estimates, but based on the reviews and wait-time, I figured they just must be really busy because they’re so good. When they called to confirm the appointment a couple of days before they came, I confirmed with Dianne once again that the $95 (+ tax) would be applied to the work performed; even if all we needed was a chimney sweep, and she once again assured me that was correct. Dianne and he husband, John, arrived at our house on time and in a professional manner. They were very nice, did a thorough inspection and explained what needed to be done both verbally and in writing. They then referred us to another chimney company for us to call to do the work. We were very confused as we thought we were calling a full-service chimney company. The work that needed to be done was strictly chimney related, and even included a recommended sweep, but when I expressed my confusion as to if they would be doing any of the work themselves, the answer was “no.” I’m still a bit baffled and confused by this. I did question where the money we just paid them would be going then if they weren’t doing any of the work, and Dianne responded that it was for an “honest opinion survey.” They then said they would “square-away” with the other chimney company they recommended we call, but again, I’m baffled, disappointed and feel misled. How will we even know if this other chimney company actually applies the “discount” or if he just marks his price up $100 to offset the difference? We did call the other chimney company, and now have to wait until next week for him to come out and give us an estimate. They were very nice and professional, but when they left, I couldn’t help but feel like we had been scammed and/or taken advantage of. Although they seemed very honest and knowledgeable, we would not use their “services” again.

"We thank you for taking the time to write a review and for the A's you gave us in Professionalism, Punctuality, and Responsiveness. We are upset and disappointed with the overall grade you gave us when we were only looking to do what was best for you. We arrived and performed a thorough inspection of your chimney which took over one hour. We went through the overall details of the inspection with your husband including explaining all of the photos we took and also explained that the repairs that needed to be performed. We felt that your needs would be better served by having another company perform these repairs. Believe me, I would have made much more money doing the repairs, but I felt that I could not do them safely. We also pointed out a severe fire hazard in your heating appliance connector piping which we relayed our safety concerns to your husband. The connector piping was only a few inches from a combustible wall when it should have been 18". Being your husband is in the HVAC business, we went out of our way explaining how he could correct this problem and we even told him the part to get and where to get it. We recommended another excellent Certified Chimney Sweep and chimney mason who I know does excellent work. I personally call him and asked him to deduct our inspection fee, and he has integrity and would not add our inspection fee to the price of the quote. We even forwarded the photos we took and explain what has to be done. (He has the proper equipment to do the job safely) Once you meet the other company I believe you will be comfortable in moving forward with the repairs required. Like I mentioned earlier, we are deeply disappointed and we're sorry if you felt scammed as that is something no one in 35 years has ever accused us of. Chief Chimney Services has been cleaning and servicing our chimneys for many years and they are always prompt, professional, and above all, extremely trustworthy. John and Dianne are always a pleasure to deal with, and if there is something that needs to be repaired it is brought to my attention and the decision on whether or not to do the repair is made with no pressure. They will not try sell you on unnecessary repairs like some other services I have used in the past. You will not regret hiring Chief Chimney Services.

John and Diane are the best. Period. No competition in this space for a chimney company. They both explained to me the ins an outs of operating a fireplace. The fireplace pretty much looks brand new after they cleaned up the ash left behind by the old owner and Diane cleaned the glass and screen to the point I thought she replaced it. My damper system was in need of repair and they not only repaired it they made it better. There isnt a single thing I can say bad. They arrived early, were mindful using bedsheets, and were just all around nice people to talk to. I look forward to them fixing the issues with my chimney outside in the spring. I will get a couple other estimates just because you need to know the price is fair. But I already know the answer and will update after they come back in April

Very good. Husband/Wife team did a great job. The clean space in my burner room was left in the same or better clean condition it was before. Some suggested fixing of brick work on my 30 year chimney was done very softly / professionally.
