When we needed to build up the laminate height near the tile they did so in a gradual transition using the underwent padding to make it seamless. "My drywall was a mess after taking down 1970s-era foil wallpaper.  He skimmed my walls and made them look great!  He really wants the job to come out terrific, so once everything is put back into the bathroom (toilet, vanity, floor), he's going to come by to touch up any damage to the drywall caused by the installers.  His price was very reasonable, too.
