I needed main floorâ s central AC replaced. A friend recommended me to Eric. I texted him and he responded with a few hours. setting up an appointment was fast and easy. Eric was knowledgeable and timely. My job was extremely difficult based on the location of my air handler and there was a high chance the ceiling would need to be opened for access. When Eric arrived for the job he inspected further and said he was going to try not to have to open the ceiling for access. He and his crew went well beyond what anybody else would have done and meticulously dismantled the old air handler piece by piece. It was time consuming, difficult and energy consuming. But they were able to do and saved me from having a gaping hole in my ceiling. They did an excellent job setting up the new air handler in the same location and even fixed errors the previous installer had made! The entire crew were highly professional, courteous and clean. They put down drop cloths everywhere and cleaned up everything when they were done. I highly, highly, and without reservation, recommend Eric and Just Rite HVAC and will tell anybody I know about them."

Over the past decade, warranty periods have substantially increased, shifting from 3-5 years in the 90s to the now-prevalent 10+ year warranties. Both warranty types cover parts failing due to manufacturer defects, incurring no additional costs. Signs that your air conditioner capacitor is malfunctioning include a smell or smoke coming from the unit, a humming or banging noise when it starts, the system shutting off randomly, higher energy bills, and no cold air blowing out of the unit. Additionally, if your capacitor is bad, the air conditioner may not turn on at all. 

The DOE is phasing out AC units with SEER ratings that fall below 14 or 15. The exact minimum rating depends on your region. In the northern United States, new ACs must have a minimum SEER rating of 14, though you can still buy and install older systems as long as they were compliant when they were manufactured. In the southern and southwestern United States, you cannot buy or install older air conditioners with lower SEER ratings. The minimum rating is between 14.5 and 15, depending on the power of the unit.

You should clean your air conditioner at least once per year, but you may need to clean your whole HVAC system (including the air ducts) more often. According to the National Air Duct Cleaners Association, you may need to clean them more frequently depending on factors like whether you smoke, have pets, or have allergies.
