"Scott Roofing did a superlative job with our “mandated” roof repair. Our Homeowners’ Insurance Company created considerable stress with their ultimatum for full replacement of our roof by a date that is problematic in our region. Despite the looming date and two late winter storms, they handled our project with ease. The team was both polite and respectful. They worked tirelessly to dusk most days and took great care of our exposed rooftop those windy and rainy nights. And when they left each evening, their equipment was always tightly stored away and the yard swept of roof debris. We so appreciated their level of professionalism. Without hesitation we say, Scott Roofing is the best!"

"New Era Roofing was highly recommended on Nextdoor, Angie's List, Home Advisor and BBB, so I called. They were very responsive, polite, punctual, and documented all work to be done, providing both before and after pictures. "I couldnt have chosen better roofers! They went above and beyond in all regards - I got MORE than what I paid for. My roof was a mess, from the rafters up, and they just did what needed to be done to correct problems and make it "bombproof." Carlos is amazing. He really cares about and takes pride in is work. But what I appreciate most is his honesty and integrity. You can really trust that he is doing what he says! I am picky, and I pay attention to EVERYTHING and I am truly satisfied with the workmanship and my new roof! LOOK NO FURTHER - GO WITH GREAT BASIN ROOFING!"

Roofing questions, answered by experts

For homeowners who plan to stay in their homes for a long time or never want to have to deal with replacing a roof again, rubber roof shingles are likely worth the added investment amount over asphalt shingle varieties. While the initial cost of installing a rubber shingle roof will be significantly higher, their long life spans can be worth it in the long term. Consider the curb appeal of a rubber roof, though, as other roofing materials, like metal, can look better and offer even greater value.

Copper roofs last an average of around 100 years, making it one of the longest-lasting types of roofs. It’s significantly more expensive than an asphalt shingle roof, but it also lasts three to four times as long, providing great value for the money. You can extend the life of your copper roof by carrying out routine maintenance, like scheduling annual cleaning and roof inspections.

You cannot replace granules that have been lost off shingles. The granule embedding process is part of shingle manufacturing, and once the bond holding the granules to the shingles has been lost, the granules are gone for good. Shingles with granule loss must be fully replaced to continue offering adequate protection.

If you need to replace the roof over your attached garage, a roofing contractor can perform what is called a partial roof replacement that only affects garage roofing. However, it's important to keep in mind that only replacing a portion of your roof creates a situation where your roofing has two different lifespans. You will also miss out on the opportunity for a full roof warranty. In some cases, having two different roofs on your home could increase risks for leaks. When replacing the roof on a detached garage, homeowners have the option to make the project bigger by upgrading their home roof alongside their garage roof. However, this isn't necessary if your home has a newer, properly functioning roof. It is better to try to match the new garage roof to your home's existing roof instead.

Whether you should choose a flat roof or a sloped roof depends on your particular situation. Flat roofs tend to be less expensive to install. However, sloped roofs have longer lifespans and stand up better to heavy snow and other inclement weather.

Keep in mind that even a flat roof needs to have a slight slope, usually around 1/2 inch for every foot. If it is completely flat, water will pool and cause damage, either from weight or leakage or rot.
