"I would recommend A&P Painting as the best choice. Not only is the owner Peter Reid friendly, prompt, reliable and professional his estimate was the lowest among five we collected. Not only was his pricing the most competitive but his bid was the only to call out industrial grade material suitable for repainting pool and balcony decks. Additionally, his price included a high quality acrylic paint by Dunn Edwards, higher quality material than the other bids. When it came time to do the job, he put four men on the site and they performes the highest quality workmanship completing the entire project in one day. All work areas were protected against staining and the cleanup was completed perfectly. I worked in the home building industry for 22 years so I know quality material and workmanship when I see it. One can't do any better than A&P Painting and Roofing. Already highly rated by Angi before our job, our job just proves once again the rating is well deserved."

"Hired Ricardo Borjas to paint interior rooms and repair baseboards. His painter did such a great job (fast, neat...no paint splatters) that I asked him to paint entire exterior of house. This included exterior walls and doors and patio cover. Job was done neatly and house looks beautiful. Borjas is not the cheapest but you get what you pay for. My job was done well and done fast. Highly recommend!"

"We had a total of 4 painters bid on this job, which consisted of painting the stucco of our house, two exterior entrance doors, and the metal fences and gates. Diesel Painting and Drywall was the most responsive of the bids and the lowest bidder by a small amount. The crew were all polite and worked quickly and efficiently. They power washed the building the first day and began scrapping the wood trim areas. The second day they completed scrapping and began painting. The painting was completed the 3rd day. There was some minor clean-up and touch-ups the 4th day. I was completely satisfied with his job."

"House looks beautiful, however, side electrical panel began to peel within one month and several sprinklers were broken during the painting. I did not contact the company back, fixed sprinklers myself and scraped and painted electrical panel myself. All in all satisfied with the job.

"Where do I even start.... If I could give Do it Your Painting & More 100 stars, I would. I recently lost my father and acquired his house that needed quite a bit of work and a fresh facelift. He was a smoker and because of his health declining, was unable to keep up on some basic maintenance. After submitting a request for a quote through Angi's List, Dajuan responded promptly and professionally and answered many of my questions, that I'm sure were all over the place. Trying to handle a house project 1000 miles away and trying to find someone to do it was extremely overwhelming and stressful, especially while grieving, but Dajuan's understanding and communication made the process a lot smoother. He was able to meet me at my Father's house last minute while we were in town to go over some job options and gave me some advice to help me make some decisions. After a good month or so of a massive texting conversation, funding hiccups and decision making delays on my part, Dajuan and crew got the job done in the time frame I needed and came back in a timely manner to fix a couple things and complete a couple more jobs I added on at the end. He suggested a couple options for some weird issues in the house and pointed out some issues that need to be taken care of in the future that I can do on my own. Everything was perfect and the finished project came out 100x better than I had imagined and the smoke smell is gone! I am so thankful that the stars aligned to have found Dajuan and crew for this job. It was so nice to find someone who could tackle not only the painting but flooring installation, small kitchen remodel and stubborn ceiling fan installation. A package deal! Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your patience, your compassion, your professionalism, your understanding of my situation and your attention and care to my Father's house. If you ever come to Oregon, we have some jobs for you!"

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can and should paint or stain pressure-treated wood, as this helps prevent the surface from cracking. However, it is crucial to wait for the wood to dry out completely from the chemical treatment process before applying a finish. If the wood is still wet, the paint will not adhere properly. The drying time can range from weeks to six months. To test if the wood is ready, drip some water onto a board. If the water is absorbed, the wood is dry enough for painting or staining. If the water beads up on the surface, it needs more time to dry. You can build with the wood while it's still wet, but you must wait for it to dry before painting.

For the longest-lasting exterior paint, consider acrylic or enamel (oil-based) paints. Acrylic paints, including acrylic latex and acrylic enamel, are known for withstanding harsh weather and sun exposure. Enamel-based paints are also one of the most durable options available. While latex paint is common, it typically has a shorter lifespan than acrylic or oil-based options. The paint's finish also affects its durability; a higher gloss finish is generally more durable. For resistance to moisture and cracking, matte and satin finishes can be effective, while a high-gloss acrylic or oil-based paint offers a combination of maximum longevity and durability.

Various kinds of substances and deck preservatives act as protective coatings for wood to prevent rot, which is caused by water getting into the wood and creating cracks and splits. Stains, paints, and sealants are the three best options to protect your wood, but there are also oils, varnishes, and waxes available. You’ll need to reapply sealant at least once per year, and you should inspect your wood deck regularly to look for signs of damage or general wear and tear.

Applying too much sealer to a deck might seem like extra protection, but it can cause more harm than good. Wood is a porous material with a limited capacity to absorb liquids. When you go overboard with sealer, the excess can't soak in and instead forms a film on the surface. This leftover layer is prone to peeling, cracking, and trapping moisture, ultimately defeating the purpose of sealing in the first place.

You may be wondering: can you paint cement? Fortunately, the answer is yes.

To change the color of your cinder blocks, you have two options. You can either paint them or stain them. Either way, you'll be able to choose from a wide range of color options. Some popular colors for cinder block painting include off-white shades and gray tones, which add a modern spin to the traditional gray blocks.
