"Ed and his worker did a great job replacing my old wood fence. They worked one section at a time, so as not to expose my yard during the work. They were done earlier than expected, the fence is beautiful and has already stood up to some windstorms."

"Excellent service on planning my patio cover construction of lifetime aluminum-clad posts and a 3" insulated roof with fans. Each person who contacted me during the planning process had a specific job to do and did it with good humor. There were no high-pressure sales pitches for the "deal" because it never went away! I got good information and immediate answerw when I had a question. The price was better than the competition and was penciled out wheneverer I needed to change or add something to the plan. I signed a clear contract and was given a specific window of time in which my patio cover would be constructed on site. We'll see pretty soon how that goes!"

Patio Covers questions, answered by experts

On average, awning costs range from $1,400 to $4,400. The low end of the cost range can be around $100 up to $7,500 on the high end. Cost factors include the type of awning, size, and location. Portable awnings are the most affordable and DIY-friendly to install, costing $100 to $400. Larger, motorized awnings tend to be more solidly built, ranging in price from $2,000 to $3,500.

There are many ways to mitigate wind damage. Some of the most common methods include installing storm windows and doors and wind-rated garage doors. When you get a wind mitigation inspection, the inspector will also assess the condition and shape of your roof to see how well it will withstand strong winds.

The cheapest material for covering a tennis court is rubber or clay. Rubber needs to be installed over a concrete or asphalt base, however, which can make the project more expensive up-front (but cheaper to resurface over time). Clay courts are among the most affordable, but they aren’t the best to play on and require a lot of maintenance.

It’s best to keep your awning retracted if winds are 25 miles per hour or more to make sure your awning doesn’t sustain irreparable damage due to wind. Some awnings can take winds up to 30 miles per hour without any damage, but it’s best to consult the manufacturer’s guidance. A good rule of thumb is if it’s too windy for you to comfortably stand outside, it’s time to bring the awning in.

Yes, awnings can add value to a home, primarily by boosting its curb appeal and providing more usable outdoor space. While the exact monetary return on investment depends on the awning's size, style, and quality, they offer an excellent appeal factor to potential buyers. For example, an awning with a trendy metal roof can be particularly attractive. Even if the direct increase in resale value is modest, a well-chosen awning enhances the home's functionality and aesthetic.
