"Very responsive. Straightforward communication and estimate for work. Excellent price. Cesar's team of 3 took out 2 large trees (ponderosa and Catalpa) very delicately positioned near house windows and other breakable things in about 3 hrs, with another hour of cleanup. They very skilfully climbed up the trees, used ropes to catch the large, but manageable, chunks of the tree as they chopped it up working from the top down. Very skillfull with a large collection of specialized tools. Very hard workers!"

Customers say: Quick response

"Oscar Pena of Pena & Sons replied almost immediately to our HomeAdvisor inquiry for tree removal and landscaping work. He came by the next day to understand the job, and provided an initial bid. He also advised us on getting the several shrubs and tree that we needed. Work was tentatively scheduled for the next week. He read, understood and signed the job description, price and schedule that we provided. The work took less than two days, including removal of all trimmings and debris, picking up plants, topsoil and fertilizer, and installing plants according to our sketched plan. Everything went well and we were very pleased with his service and his workers."

"Went fairly well although I expected more removed from tree for price quoted and paid .also forgot to trim top of driveway dead tree and pull down dangling dead limb. Be very specific when getting quote. Get what was agreed upon in writing. Paid way too much for work done. Friendly and courteous."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

In Santa Fe, if you notice large, unhealed pruning wounds, excessive sprouting from improper topping, or branches breaking during monsoon storms, it may be time to revisit past tree service projects. Other warning signs include persistent pest issues, visible root damage from earlier removals, unbalanced canopies, or trees struggling to recover after one or two growing seasons. These issues often signal that professional attention is needed.

Helpful?

In Santa Fe, keep tree service projects safer by setting up clear safety zones around work areas and scheduling work to avoid nesting bird seasons. Make sure children and pets stay hydrated and indoors during noisy or dusty periods. Remove debris promptly to prevent wind hazards, and check for any toxic plants exposed by digging. Coordinating work times around school or nap schedules also helps maintain a family-friendly environment.

Helpful?

Santa Fe homes with adobe construction, flat roofs, or traditional architectural elements like vigas can make tree service projects more challenging. Narrow courtyards, unmarked underground utilities, and retaining walls may limit equipment movement. If your property has a septic system, plan safe routes for machinery to avoid damage. Discuss these features with your contractor to ensure your tree service project proceeds smoothly and safely.

Helpful?

For successful tree service projects in Santa Fe, start by reviewing local ordinances for tree size limits and seasonal restrictions. Schedule major pruning or removal for late fall or early spring, and test your soil for amendments suited to high-altitude conditions. Coordinate with utility companies for safe access, plan irrigation with water restrictions in mind, and consider property features like adobe walls or narrow lots when arranging equipment access.

Helpful?

In Santa Fe, homeowners often prune trees at the wrong time, such as right before monsoon season or during unpredictable temperature swings. Choosing non-native species that struggle in high-altitude conditions, over-watering new plantings, and attempting DIY removal of large trees are frequent mistakes. Ignoring overhead utility lines, skipping necessary permits, and using excessive mulch can also cause long-term problems with tree health and safety.
