"The computer technician, Tammy, was excellent.  He arrived on time and was very personable.  Our computer is several years old and has been running slow, so he cleaned it up for us.  He tried to show us how to perform some maintenance tasks on our own.
After he was finished, he had to call in to the main Geek Choice number to settle the bill.  When I spoke with the person on the phone from Geek Choice, I was astonished when they told me the bill was for $300, which included 2.5 hours service at $100 per hour and a $50 fee for home visit.  I informed her that I had ordered the first hour through Angie's List for $75 and that the home visit fee was waived.  She retrieved my information and charged me a balance of $135, to include the reduced hourly fee of $90 per hour.  So Angie's List saved me almost $100, which I totally appreciate.
I give the technician high marks but the company, Geek Choice, seems like just another corporation trying to make more money off the consumer than they should.  I'm glad I went through Angie's List.

"No complaints. The Technician was professional and completed the tasks in a professional manner. I used an Angies list coupon for one of the jobs and it was a fair price. The other TV was a little more. I used the Angies list service because I wanted to support local business people. I was surprised to find out the Tech was an independent contractor provided by a California company. A month or so later I needed another TV mounted. In addition to Hellotech I looked into another internet company that begins with "A" that provides local contractors for home repairs. The other service was quite a bit cheaper ($118) and the repair work was comparable. If I can't avoid national internet companies I might as well go for the cheapest."

"Peter did a great job! The floor outlet was built into the slab which Peter identified quickly and recommended that I do not do that work because the cost would not be worth it. One set of outlets only needed the GFI reset to work so Peter identified that quickly. The other outlet had a bad receptacle so Peter identified the issue and went to home depot to get the correct part. He was back quickly and replaced what was needed. I would definitely use him for electrical work in the future.

"Had TVs mounted to walls in bedroom and living room, as well as setting up home theater systems of DVD player, cable, and complete sound system. Work was exceptional. My tech, David, was great -- besides getting everything done efficiently, cleaned entire work area, then spent quite some time explaining how it all worked and didn't leave until he was sure I was confident doing it. Highly recommend Geek Squad!"

Stereo and Home Theater Systems questions, answered by experts

Standard components include a projector or TV, speakers, receiver, and seating. Smart controls are optional.

You can customize your home theater with a wide range of features, but the minimum components include a display (like a TV or projector), a sound system, and comfortable seating. Your total cost will vary depending on the components, brands, and features you choose. Common elements and their approximate costs include: 4K 50-inch to 60-inch TV: $800–$1,500; 60-inch TV and bracket: $900; Amplifier: $250; Five box speakers and subwoofer: $500; High-end front projector: $10,000–$60,000; Home theater screen: $250–$1,500; Low-end front projector: $1,500; Surge protection: $25 and up; Three HDMI cables: $30; Universal remote: $20–$200; Wiring and circuit board: $400–$2,700.

Built-in entertainment centers cost an average of $9,000, which includes full-wall shelving, storage, and a TV mount. While most homeowners pay around this price, you can expect to pay between $5,000 and $15,000, with high-end entertainment centers reaching upwards of $30,000. Built-in entertainment centers offer the same kind of shelving as built-in bookshelves, with additional considerations for television and related storage.

In most cases, you should not put a TV on a fireplace mantel. The minimum width required to put a TV safely on a shelf or mantel is 10 inches, but pre-made mantels are usually too shallow, averaging at only seven inches deep. If you do choose to place a TV above a mantel, it should be mounted to the wall. However, do so cautiously as heat radiating from the fireplace could potentially cause damage to electronics.

The VESA mounting standard refers to the layout of the mounting holes on the back of all televisions that follow the standard. These holes appear in the same place on all TVs of a certain size. This allows the mounting bracket and hardware manufacturers to build the brackets to fit the VESA standard. Ideally, if everyone follows the VESA standard, any brand of TV should fit any brand of mounting bracket, as long as the sizes match up correctly.
