"I called Terry-owner of Lakes Regional Pump & Irrigation after 7pm , when the water softener that was installed earlier that day somehow killed the well water pump. Terry returned my call and came out first thing in the morning during our blizzard of the month. Terry knew exactly what to do and fixed everything within an hour or 2. The water softener company did not kill the pump it just happened happenstance. The bill was reasonable but what stands out the most is customer service. You cannot go wrong hiring this company!!!"

"Mike was great. He took his time to explain what he was doing. I had a sediment filter installed and he replaced the pressure tank. He showed me how to check/replace filter as needed. He came by and diagnosed my problem without charging a service fee. He was very thorough and was not in a rush. His price was fair. He gave his professional opinion and did not try to "sell" me products that were not needed when I inquired about a water softener for my house. Great guys both him and his partner. I highly recommend giving them a call for your next plumbing job!"

Small jobs welcome

"I finally got to build my dream garage to store all my tools and have a cool hangout on Friday nights with the boys n a couple coors. Chris came and did everything from the bathroom and the heating system. I will definitely be calling him back to add a mini split in the future. He was professional, punctual and clean. Very knowledgeable you can tell he cares about his clients."

"I had my full home repiped as I switched from electric to forced hot water heating. Fred was courteous, communicative, and timely in making the repairs. We ran into quite a few snafus and he took them in stride. His quote was MUCH lower (about half the price) of the original quote we got. Definitely recommend."

"Cindy was very nice, came to my phone, checked out my system. Later that day I received a reasonable quote for the softener, and the sediment filter. I was able to schedule an appointment for about a week later. Justin was my installer, he was very nice, professional, quick worker, and a veteran too! Justin went over the system with me and made sure I knew how to work the system."

Water Softeners questions, answered by experts

Yes, a water softener can remove scale deposits. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, after you add a water softener to your home, “gradually the softer water will dissolve limescale scale deposits and remove the problem entirely.” Installing a water softener—or water descaler—will also help prevent new scale deposits from forming.

A lower-end water softener would cost around $900, not including installation. Each home has different requirements, water hardness, and number of inhabitants, so there’s a huge range in pricing—$600 to over $6,000. The average water softener repair bill is around $500, meaning it’s a much better option to repair any issues and only replace your softener if absolutely necessary.

No. You should never directly drain a water softener into a sewer cleanout. This practice is illegal in many areas because it could allow raw sewage to get into your drinking water and make you seriously ill. Many places have codes requiring a specific seal, pipe, and a large air gap between a water softener and a sewage cleanout. Check out Florida's Plumbing Building Code as an example of what these restrictions might look like.

A water softener removes minerals from your drinking water and can make your house water softer. These softeners are designed to extend the lifetime of your plumbing system while also making water safer and more palatable for drinking. Hard water, which is water with a heavy amount of suspended particles, can also cause hair damage, skin irritation, and buildup in your pipes.

Because it’s been through the water cycle, evaporating and becoming slightly acidic thanks to dissolved carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, rainwater tends to be naturally soft compared to groundwater, which has just been in contact with limestone. However, the natural hardness level of water always depends on where you are and other factors.
