"AHS is ok. They cover repairs of most everything under the roof of your house. The companies that contract with them are not always the best. You call AHS with the issue, they send a fax to the repair company and give you the contact info. If they don't contact you within 24 hours, you call them. Sometimes they answer, sometimes they don't. When they arrive (usually three days or so later), they service the item. if it has issues within the 90 days, you call AHS again, they are sent out with no charge. If the serviceman decides the unit is unrepairable, AHS will allow you to choose a replacement from their listing (usually not as good as what you have) they will install and remove your old item, or give you wholesale amount to buy and install your own. Prices vary on what you want covered and what you want the copay to be, plus where you live. For me it is 49.99 per month with a 75.00 time of service order. You can have more than one item serviced at the same time under the same fee. If you have a SEAR product the repair guys are great. Not that wild about the other ones they send out. But it is a big savings compared to calling someone on your own. The cost of service is only the 75.00 copay."

Install Above Ground Pools questions, answered by experts

Proper pool and spa service requires strict winterization by late September. You must blow out all plumbing lines and install a secured winter cover to prevent catastrophic freezing. During the summer, high prairie winds in North Dakota blow debris into the water, demanding frequent skimming. You also need to monitor water chemistry closely, as the local water supply causes scaling on surfaces.

Helpful?

Delaying winterization is a critical mistake. A sudden late-September freeze in Minot will destroy un-winterized pumps and crack plumbing. Another common error is ignoring expansive clay soil, which shifts and cracks pool shells over time. Homeowners also frequently neglect winter spa maintenance during power outages or fail to anchor covers against strong local winds during routine pool and spa service.

Helpful?

Install a 48-inch barrier fence with self-latching gates to meet state safety codes. For winter pool and spa service, use a load-bearing cover that supports the weight of children and pets. Lock all chemicals in a weatherproof container to protect them from Minot temperature extremes. Finally, keep emergency access paths clear of equipment and maintain non-slip decking to prevent falls.

Helpful?

Horizontal cracks in the shell or tilted walls indicate severe soil shifting or freeze damage from past winters in ND. Heaved surrounding decking shows that frost penetrated and undermined the base. You should also watch for persistent leaks, cracked pump housings, and chronic surface scaling. These issues signal that previous pool and spa service failed to account for local conditions.

Helpful?

Start by calling the state utility line before any excavation to prevent hitting buried lines. You must also secure required municipal permits for pool and spa service. Schedule a soil assessment, as Minot has expansive clay that shifts during freeze-thaw cycles. Finally, plan your timeline carefully, since the frost-free construction window here only lasts from mid-May to early October.
