Small jobs welcome

"Action Construction is a great company. Ron Seamon was a great help. I was looking to remodel my bathroom in my home in short notice, I called Ron, he came over and did a quick estimate. The contractors who work for him are really friendly. They were able to install a new shower, new floor tiles and new plumbing in short notice. I also contracted them to upgrade my electrical system in my home, they were able to redo all the wiring and make it more efficient. I also refloored new carpeting and new doors, they made it all easy and affordable. Recommend 100% for contracting in the Minot, ND area!"

"Excellent work. We purchased natural cherry cabinets in shaker style, with the panels made of solid wood rather than veneer. That is more difficult work, as each panel has to be constructed from several planks. Moreover, the clear finish would leave any flaws more visible. Simply put, the doors are beautiful--flawless in both construction and finish. They are similar in quality to custom cherry furniture we own."

"Joseph and his crew did an excellent job roofing my home. The guys were very knowledgeable about roofing, came with excellent references, and worked very hard in above climate temperatures (100 degrees F - 105 degrees F) The roof has never looked so good. Thanks to Jacob and his team, my home will have a great roof that does not leak for many many years. Great job!"

Doors questions, answered by experts

Yes, doggie doors, like all entrances, can let both hot and cold air into your home. However, as with any door in your house, you can take steps to weather-strip your pet's entrance to prevent air leaks.

You can’t gauge the lifetime of a fire door like you could, say, an engine. Fire doors should be checked at least once every six months to ensure there are no signs of degradation like leaks, holes, water damage, termite damage, or anything else that might compromise the functionality of the door’s fire resistance. Check your smoke detectors while you’re at it.

This hack required some hand strength. First, bend the fork's tines. Next, slip the pointed ends into the door latch and close the door. Open the door to remove the fork and break off the fork's handle. Reinsert the fork's head into the door latch and close the door. Finally, slide the fork's handle through the tines, creating a horizontal barrier that prevents the door from opening inward.

When choosing between an inward- or outward-swinging door, there’s no right answer. Inward-swinging doors are great for avoiding debris and keeping hinges inside for added security. Alternatively, outward-swinging doors can give you more space inside your home, and some homeowners feel they’re harder to force open. Ultimately, neither is “better,” but a door expert can help you figure out which fits your needs.

High-tech solutions and strategic placement can help ensure the safety of your pet door. Pet doors can pose security risks, as well as the risk of stray or wild animals entering your home, but modern pet doors offer options like collar-based sensors to ensure doors will only open for your pet, and installing a pet door in an out-of-sight location or in a wall rather than a door can help to avoid intruders using the door to gain access to your home.
