"I called for repair service (not under warranty) because my LG refrigerator was no longer cooling. Was able to get an appointment quickly and the woman who answered the phone was so nice. I was told that I would receive a call when the tech was on the way - I did not but I was able to follow on the map which was a great tool. Tech came in, put their tool bag down, opened my refrigerator and said "Thats not good." Asked if we heard some kind of ticking - which we did not. Never touched a single tool or looked at anything else . Then he decided I needed to replace the compressor and we received an estimate for approximately $1400. He then let me know about the options they had on-site that I could replace mine with. I was under the impression that there would be a more thorough diagnostic and as I see from your previous responses to other reviews, that is what I should have had. I understand that the techs are experts in their field but I expect more from a diagnostic than opening the door. After my appointment I got a little nervous and called the business to ask questions as I wasn't confident with the way the visit went. Was told the supervisor was on the phone and he would call back. Now it's Thursday, almost a week later and I never heard back so I called again today. Told the woman who answered that I was waiting on a call back and she said there were no notes in the system so just wanted to know what was going on. I let her know and asked her what a diagnostic should have consisted of and told her my concerns. She put me on hold and was going to get the supervisor on the phone. Instead, she got back on and let me know that the supervisor said that the tech is an expert so he just knew it was the issue without doing anything else (along those lines, not verbatim). How confident should I be in the service I received, especially when that is a supervisors response? And honestly I thought it might be the compressor myself before I called because that seems to be an issue but I called your business so that I could be sure it was the issue and because you would do a diagnostic to confirm. I didn't pay so someone could tell me my refrigerator wasn't cooling. I already knew that. Would you be confident if you pulled into a car repair shop because your car was acting up and they looked at it and told you the engine needed to be replaced without looking at anything?"

"They do terrible customer service. They are lazy. We had 3 different visits from them because the fourth visit was supposed to be 9-5 Friday for them to hopefully finally fix it bc they havent in 3 visits. I waited all day. No one came or called. I called and left msg and they called me back while I was on speaker with Lowe's. AppTech said there was no service order for them to come. Lowe's heard their lies. Lady from AppTech was rude and said they fixed my washer. They did not! It still violently shakes. All they do is come put a level on it and level it each time and say that's why its shaking. I said each person that comes levels it. That's not the problem! It gets unlevel from shaking so much if it was even unlevel in the first place. I wait for them all day thr past 3 times they came and they come around 4:30pm and stay about 5 min and leaves. They don't go into the washer at all! Mark who came last time with a woman who never spoke a word were rude and told me pretty much I didnt know what i was talking about and that leveling one leg 3/4" fixed it. I told them I would be calling them back to fix it being it's under warranty with Lowes and we were stuck with AppTech because I know it's still broken. They said it's fixed. Well after the no show the 4th scheduled visit Lowes has scheduled me with another company. I hope AppTech goes out of business because they have terrible rude customer service and they dont fix anything."

FAQs for appliance repair projects in Midway Park, NC

If your refrigerator needs to be repaired, contact an appliance repair company to diagnose the issue and repair your refrigerator. It’s okay to leave it plugged in and running, but unplug it if it makes unusual noises.

Signs that your refrigerator may need repairs include:

  • Food items are not being held at the correct temperature (between 35 and 38 degrees Fahrenheit)

  • The fridge is using too much energy and seems to run all the time

  • Loud and/or unusual noises

Possible causes include:

  • A damaged door

  • Faulty condenser coil

  • Malfunctioning control board

Contacting an appliance repair professional as soon as possible can help save items in your fridge from spoiling. Common fridge repairs include the compressor, control board, thermostat, defrost motor, coils, and ice maker.

If you’re having problems with your dryer, contact an appliance repair professional as soon as possible to inspect and repair it. Having a faulty dryer can be a major inconvenience in the home.

Your dryer may need repairs if:

  • It isn’t turning on

  • It’s not releasing enough heat

  • The drum doesn’t spin

Common repairs include:

  • A damaged or worn-out belt or

  • Damaged or shorted electrical wiring

  • A control board malfunction

Dryers tend to overheat or become short-circuited over time, especially after heavy use. Other common dryer repairs include door switches, timers, and control boards.

If the unit is not under warranty, then you may want to call a reliable appliance repair technician to diagnose the issue and recommend a repair. Some of the most common washing machine issues are inadequate water supply to the unit, poor drainage due to clogging, leaks, and excessive vibration while washing. Like ovens, the cost to repair a washing machine will vary widely depending on which issue you’re experiencing.

The average cost to repair an appliance depends on the appliance, make, model, the part that needs repair, and how long it takes to replace or repair a part. The following are the average repair costs for the most common appliances:

  • Refrigerator: $200–$300

  • Freezer: $90–$500

  • Oven, cooktop, range: $100–$500

  • Microwave: $50–$400

  • Dishwasher: $160–$300

  • Garbage disposal: $70–$250

  • Washing machine: $50–$450

  • Dryer: $100–$400

Appliance repair contractors may charge $40 to $120 per hour for labor, and most also provide the replacement parts necessary at an additional cost.  It’s also important to note that these prices can go up on holidays and emergency fees may apply if you need your appliance fixed immediately.

It's good to contact the manufacturer first to see if any warranties still exist, and if they have any specific repair persons they recommend. Some specialty units or smart units may require the assistance of a manufacturer-approved technician. Oven issues can be more challenging to diagnose than other appliances in the home because many of the parts are difficult to access for inspection or replacement. Some common oven repairs involve replacing damaged burners, heating coils, or electric cables. Purchasing additional parts, such as a new heating coil may also increase the total repair cost.
